Pete are you sure you're a Greek? Cos the last bottle that I drank was spelt OUZO or perhaps the stuff that Jaws drinks he gets from Turkey for ?10.00 x 5 bottles (same price as the Kelvin Kiln Tee Shirts). Personally I prefer Metaxa 5 star strangely it never seems to make the plane home. Perhaps I need to bulk buy?

I just didn't want to become another Fat Bert quoting innocent mistakes.....
And, quite right Metaxa 5 star is better than the 3 or 7 star.

Being a man of simple tastes...
I prefer a drink which is a) liquid and b) alcoholic. Anything else is just being too picky.
In my travels around the world I have quaffed a number of strange tinctures, some nice, some horrid, but I managed to drink at least one. The only exception was the "Heineken" I had in Egypt. I took one sip and spat out most of it straight away - who the fook in their right minds would put formaldehyde in their beer!!! It tasted vile and we found out later that there was a high number of cases of blindness, organ damage and death from drinking this beer. :shooter:
At least the bodies were preserved for the autopsy.:dunno:

We love a bit of the ol' 7* metaxa in my household and when in Crete prefer Raki to ouzo. Has to be the stuff made in the local villages though - non of this mass produced stuff. Jesus-ya could probably run mi bike on the stuff.Hi octane or what

Apparantly I am a ponce, I like a nice bottle of red wine and some real ale. :blush:

Don't have much in the way of pubs around here - Used to be a little place in Berkeley that had the black stuff so thick you could almost stand a spoon in it!! Years gone now. Lots of those yuppy-ish microbreweries that've become popular, but you never know what your gonna get that passes as good beverage uke:
I'll stick to Glenmorangie, Jack Daniels Single Barrel, and Absolut, for now :lick: Never tried Ouzo, Pete, now I'm curious about it!!

Sounds like grand stuff, Pete - Regretfully, last time I was in a Greek restaurant was in my young 'n relatively innocent days whilst visiting Old Town Alexandria, VA - Absolutely marvelous food, missed out on the ouzo. :bang:
Have to hunt something up around here and report back as, thanks to you, now I know better what to try on another culinary adventure. Though much rather be looking out over the Med. Sea during as you described!!!

People didn't believe me and ended up drunk the following morning on water!!!!!!!!!!!
Of course it was a cheap way of smashing their heads in for nothing but, one of them fell asleep on the beach, he was left there in the middle of the day and suffered third degree burns.. hahahaha

With a meal i'm a wine drinking ponce
When out for a few with the boys i'm a poofie lager drinker
When enjoying a quiet drink of an evening it has to be J.D. no coke and 1 ice cube(a bit fussy i know) or a good single malt on its own.
