They point to a petition wanting 30mph back signed by 500,000 people as a reason for doing this.

That means c2.6m haven’t signed it.

And this is democracy??

You really don't get this democracy thing do you :)
I get that less than a fifth of the population signing and four fifths not signing seems a pretty clear message.

I reckon it’s all a conspiracy by the people that will be supplying the new signs to replace the 20mph signs they installed, using the 30mph signs they took down in the first place.

No, no, no, no.....

Democracy has nothing to do with voting or reaching sound decisions by giving everyone a choice and way to express opinion.

It's all about giving the impression of the politicians letting us plebs think we matter.

C'mon now, in our FTP system how many votes cast mean absolutely nothing as the majority in that constituency is more or less fixed in place. All those cast other than for the winner never actually mean anything or have any impact/say.

It's only in marginal constituencies that voting really counts.

The main road through our village is 20mph, even the kids on their electric scooters go faster than that.

You have to keep in mind that of the 2.6 million that didn’t sign the petition, I would guess that, at the very least, one third of them are either too young or too old to drive.

The Politburo are shit scared because, in reality, it’s going to cost them half a million votes in the general election if they don’t do something. The backlash here really has been incredible.
