bl4hbl4h It has been decided that if I am getting a new bike then we should have a conservatory. Have been looking at various firms for getting quotes and the level of sales c..p is mind blowing and the prices are swinging about wildly.
Anyone had one fitted and any advice on what to look for---apparently it has to have a dwarf wall, french doors, and more be about 15ftx15ft-------and no apparently new shoes will not do instead:xm

Nice a conservatory for the bike to stand in.... I'm impressed.
Self build is the cheapest way to go, B&Q, Screwfix.com. About half the price, should leave you with enough for a new bike.... Otherwise its trawl the ads in a local paper... wait for a sale/special offer. Do the ground work yourself, or have no dwarf wall and panel to the floor. You dont have to have a dwarf wall as panels can replace this. See a B&Q brochure to give you ideas. Play one company against another... haggle and tease them

If SWMBO wants a dwarf wall...... nothing else is gonna replace it b0x1 been there done that. Anyway in my opinion (for what it's worth)they look better.

to cut costs the only way is to build it yourself otherwise the price gets really silly. d04l1ng

I wouldnt bother going anywhere near anything from B&Q or Screwfix, if the price is right then quality certainly wont be, and if the quality is top notch then the price will be way over the top.

If you don't want to do the groundwork yourself, get a local builder to do it to a plan, then go to your local FENSA registered window company to supply and/or fit the top half.

I concur with the above  but not with the price V quality, nowdays it's all pretty much expensive crap unless your "in the know" even local builders tend to get a fair bit of their stuff from the likes of Wicks B&Q etc as it's readily available, :dunno:

Conservatories

sorry robbo, but B& Q stuff & anything from any builders merchants is crap IMHO.

Best thing to do is first of all know what you want,, I would steer away from white,(attracts flys & very glary), & dark wood grain,(expands to much in the heat making problems), Light oak is better on the eye & blends in better. Get a roof vent so you can change the hot air that builds in the roof for cooler air outside. Go for large panes with about two big openers in each side,, steer away from small openers the transom will be at eye level & also cost more money. Go for an Edwardian design,, its square which is the most useful shape. I have been in the d glazing trade since 1979 & you really do get what you pay for,( to a certain extent) best way is plan it out yourself,, get the base works done first then try & find a manufacturer of conservatorys who will supply one to you.
There are so many variables,, but if you go for a reputable local company be prepared to spend 12k,, any other advice e mail me.
Don't rush in,, at the end of the day you have to live with the result,, go take a look at other peoples etc.

Agree with the - dark wood grain,(expands to much in the heat making problems), it absolute shite though you might get away with it on a north facing.
