Some of you may have noticed a few days back that I had got trouble with my fan not cutting in. I consulted Haynes which said if the fan itself was OK, then it would be either the relay or the coolant temperature sensor, so I went for the cheaper option and ordered a relay from DSS. Whilst waiting for it to arrive I found that the 4 relays in a line are the same, so I swapped them round to no avail. So I then ordered a temp sensor. This arrived today ,so I fitted it. Zilch ! Problem persists. Consults Haynes again which says it is then either wiring issue or ECM ! Gulp ! I then studied the wiring diagram to see how the fan circuit works. Starting with the fan itself , I see that one wire goes to the relay and the other goes via the fuse box to the ignition switch ( which I wasn't expecting) This suddenly reminded me that 2 or 3 months back I decided to fit a new ignition switch because mine had been repaired by soldering when a wire snapped off underneath. Having seen the price being asked by DSS for oem, I went for an oriental version from Ebay for a fraction of the price, thinking that if it didn't work I had only wasted a couple of quid. Fitted it and everything seemed OK, until now ! Anyway, today,I dug out the old switch , refitted it, and lo and behold , my fan is alive and kicking once more. SO, the moral of my story is, whatever you do Don't Buy One Of The Cheap Chinese Ignition Switches. Here Endeth The Lesson! :yo:
