Nearly lost the awning from the sweetie van yesterday.
The Airfield has been uncharacteristically calm on the wind front all week.........
........until around 5ish yesterday when we started putting up the awning and it reverted to the usual wind speeds.
We managed to fight the wind, get the poles up and peg them down, then started putting the panels in it. Well we'd got one end panel and one front panel in when there was an almighty gust from the south, unusual direction here, and the awning, complete with poles went vertical, and Alan was airborne for a short while as well.
Thank god for the Barrel Bikers who were pitched nearby, as about ten of them barreled over and pulled it down whilst we got a storm strap over it.
The upshot of this was several split carbon fibre poles and three sections of beading pulling away from the canvas :bang: :bang:
Naturally, once it was all up, the wind dropped again and the windsocks reverted to hanging vertically again. Bloody typical.
Anyway, the Ogri Rally has now kicked of to a great start. There's hardly any room to pitch any more tents, the bands are in full swing and even the torrential rain from 9pm to 10pm hasn't managed to dampen spirits.
Bring it on!!!
