George orwell novel is becoming a reality.
Covered in another thread - the aim is to stop FALSE information being posted on social media that could lead to people making ill informed decisions on the vaccine.

I personally think that is a good thing, and something the likes of Facebook need to get a grip on.

And who is it that decides what is "FALSE information" ????????? please say its not you :p

I watched a program on the net a few nights ago there is much fake news out there on all sorts of subjects (inc corvid) all the political parties either use it as a tool or claim "fake news" on any legitimate item they don't see as furthering their political agenda, the same goes for all the big businesses & there are even computer programs to generate false information within a given set of parameters ............. the ruski's & the yanks started all that game during the cold war

So the risk in curtailing our right to free speech is that some genuine articles written on social media & elsewhere will be/are already flagged as false so genuine messages do NOT get across ...... governments world wide will love this if it becomes the norm

I do agree about freedom of speech but when there is obvious factual errors (Bill Gates has put microchips in the vaccine sort of stuff) why should it not be called out? A large part of the equation is why do people post this stuff - yes, it is sometimes plain stupidity but it is often driven by money - youtubers, bloggers and the like earn more the more hits they get so it is a fertile breeding ground for sensationalist storylines. It's a modern day version in The News of The World; the content was largely fictional and certainly sensationalist but the public lapped it up so more copies were sold.

All true but like I said who decides what is fake & what isnt ?

Whilst I'm a firm believer in free speech, anything that curtails social media is a good thing. As a whole, it has a lot to answer for and is largely responsible for a lot of the fuck ups in society that we are plagued by today.

A guy made a good point this morning..
Outlaw it and it is likely to grow and there will be no platform to reply to the numpties
Like anything perceived to be a secret the idiots out there will soon put 2 and 2 together and come up with 7

Maybe there is a halfway house on the big sites such as Facebook and twitter.....the ability for anyone to post a 'fact check' query that temporarily blocks the post. There are a million reasons why that probably wouldn't work on day 1 but you sometimes just have to start somewhere.

The biggest issue here may be the sudden realisation by the social media sites that they must be responsible for content and managing it will make a huge hole in their profits.

Which logically would include this and all other forums
