I have the option on a 1999 Bird ( pushing 22 yrs old ), in Burgundy, comes with matching soft luggage. One owner from new, but hasn’t been used for 5 yrs. Consequently, it’ll need new tyres, battery, oil/ filter new coolant and brake fluid and general service and MOT.
13k on the clock. Owned by a neighbour so I know it’s not been thrashed. Sellers looking for £2100. Not withstanding the cost to get it back on the road, do you think it’s worth £2100?........Or put another way,......is it worth a punt if it costs £500 to get it sorted?
Hence £2.6k all in.

Thnx

If its a one owner bike and is tidy then 2 grand is not outrageous with that mileage is it? The colour is obviously but thats a whole other argument.

If it was me? Then deffo yes. Buy it.
just by the mileage alone & if it's genuine?
If that was in a showroom and it was ready to ride out, you would be looking at
£5000 at least.

Tbh I think it’s a gamble at that price, not been run for five years other problems could have developed, £1500 would be my top.

Sorry mate, a dealer may ask that but doubtful they’d get it

Looks a tad on the high side to me, particularly if its a FI model.......but if you are prepared to pay a premium for the known history and convenience........

Why not see if you can get it up and running before buying? Oil change and fresh battery should see it...but the fuel may be stale. I would chuck a bottle of Injector cleaner in the tank.

I would also stick it in gear and move it backward and forward before starting to make sure the engine is turning. If it were a car I would be taking the plugs out before turning the key first time but that is quite a phaff on the Bird.

You may well need to budget for a new chain as well.

Finally, is the paint original? My idea of burgundy may well differ from yours/others but Honda didn't do anything near my idea of burgundy. What's the paint code - found on label under seat.

Look around and find a minter that doesn't need anything doing to it for similar-ish money, maybe couple hundred quid more. Mileage is not an issue on a Blackbird.

Just to save Beaker the effort: buy a car instead, preferably a BMW.

It is very low mileage but not to the point of being highly prized or priced come to that
If it was all sorted then it would be worth the asking price.. As it is, £1300 to £1500

Thnx for your comments.
Burgundy is closest colour I can think of...wine...dark red? It’s under cover in a corner of the garage, so starting isn’t an option in situ. The hobby of the guy who owned it ( from new) was to clean it, run it and push it back into the garage. I know it’s straight and cosher cos he lived next door but one and bought it just after I got my Hyabusa. He also did a couple of rallies on it with me. I’m not really looking for a BB but don’t want to miss out on a bargain and despite my original post, I think it only needs a battery to get it to an mot. Tyres ( Michelin) may be ten yrs old but look new and would pass an mot, - though would need replacing eventually. Stale petrol is of course an issue and I’m not sure if it’s a carb or ignition model. First registered June 99, how do I tell???
The idea would be to put it in top gear and turn the back wheel to get the oil pump working before firing up. Local ‘stealer’ reckons £280 for a full service, ( call it 300) including new plugs, brake and coolant fluid, etc. And as stated, has Datatool, co-ordinated luggage, Bagster harness with tank bag, top box rack, ready to tour. If I buy it, I’ll just push it the 30yds to my house. One of those finds that don’t come often .......just don’t want to slip too far into negative equity. Thnx.

The Bird is best serviced at home.. too many dealers think they know it all and very often put fully synth oil ( a massive no no ) in and use odd filters

4ltrs semi synth oil, oil filter, air filter and a set of plugs.. If you are a complete spanner numpty about 4 hours.. Average spanner skills 1.5 to 2 hours
The bird is VERY low tech and really easy to work on.. And contrary to what a dealer will tell you the valves need checking at about 100,000 miles !!!
I spent from 1999 to 2017 working exclusively on Birds so these is not the words of someone who has just worked on one or two but someone who did it for a living :)
I would bid him £2 as it has got the luggage etc
You WILL need a battery and in all honesty you should replace the tyres straight away... 10 year old rubber is NOT good on a 235 kilo bike capable of 184mph !
Yes, it is your life, but would you play russian roulette for £200 ??

I’m not sure if it’s a carb or ignition model.
It will be a carb one that was registered late ( proly a 1997 ).. EFI was never available in Mutha Magenta, and the EFI models of that year were bright red ( colour code CR101-r )
