a few weeks ago I posted a 'Man down' thread, as Derek had been pulled out on, just a week or so after buying the 'new to him' VFR750.

This is quite a long one, but is worth reading as its unbelievable, or maybe it is?

When he bought the VFR, he phoned his insurance company to change the insurance from the CBR6 to that. He found out he had only been insured third party! Now Derek never ever insures third party, always fully comp. Partly his fault, hadn't checked the documents. Okay, sorted that, insure the VFR fully comp. Fine done.

Accident occured. Phoned insurance. Waited for Angel, who do legal cover and replacement bikes to contact him. They didnt, contacted them; "Oh sorry sir, but you are only third party, so we didn't contact you for a replacement bike".

Spend ages liasing between insurance company and Angel. Luckily this time fully comp in writing.

Eventually get a hire bike.

Today, Derek finally after not hearing anything for several weeks, and getting asked by the hire company if they could collect the bike yet, gets a call from an assesor, he has to leave work to come home for this.

Assessor sees hire bike in drive. "thats not the bike is it"
"No" says Derek "thats the replacement"

"what sort of bike is that then" says the assessor

"Its a VFR800" says Derek

Garage open, revealling VFR 750

Takes two of them to push the bike in to a space as front wheel is solid against lower fairing and forks badly bent.

"what sort of bike is this then" says the assessor.

"its a VFR750" says Derek

"Doesn't look like the other one" says the assessor.

"Different model and CC, this one is older" says Derek

"Oh what size is this one" says the assessor with the log book in his hand

"A 750" says DErek

After looking around it, the assessor says does Derek have an estimate of repair.
Of course he doesn't as how is he supposed to get the bike to a garage to do an estimate.

the assessor wants to have it taken to Sussex Superbikes for estimate. Derek refused, won't let anyone touch it except John Harris Motorcycles.

The assessor does a brief estimate. Is happy to keep the wheel on it. Its bent totally.

The forks don't look too bad................... they look like this (

This idiot had no idea of the cost of fairings, what needed replacing, infact basically the guy was an assessor for cars.

so, if you are thinking about insuring your bike, make sure that the insurer is not RED STAR EQUITY as you may get this burk round if you have an accident. The broker is.................MCE

Looks like the bike will be written off, but I believe Derek will be buying it back as its worth alot on parts alone, although he will no doubt do it up.

Its truly amazing that Derek does not touch a drop of alcohol, I would need at least a bottle after that. :h
