What do I do ???

Do I stay as a contractor and have a real ability to tell people to f*ck off or commit permicide and get paid for sitting at home with a sniffly nose ??

The permy job in questions means working out in India a great deal - so free ruby murrys and cobra lager every night.....How tempting is that ??

What should I do ? :dunno: :h

that's exactly where me probs are

they want me out there 3 in 4 weeks to begin with, then less when the UK ops are set up.....

Me and the Mrs agreed that 1 week in 4 was the maximum.....

Trouble with India is it's full of foreigners.
seriously though, you need to sit down with your other half, and work out the pro's and con's and then do what she tells you to do.

The problem with being a contractor is dealing with the numpty agents.

Here's a ready made response that I used to send out to recruitment agents asking for my CV:

Dear Recruitment Agent,

Please find attached a copy of my CV for your client.

I have deleted the last 15 years experience from my CV, which makes my last job back in 1990, as it seems appropriate to the historical time period for the rates you are quoting.

If necessary, I could add some of my grandfathers experiences as a riveter on invasion barges during the second world war as my own, if this would help lower the rates even further.

I look forward to your reply, as I just love a trip down memory fcuking lane, and would love to work in the "good old days" again .

p.s. Please reply by Telex in future as email probably hasn't been invented yet

The last thing you need is advice from we pillocks on here. As DK said, sit down with t'other half and work it out between you. She is as much involved as you are. I worked for years abroad and loved it until the wife said," Come home NOW (permanently) or don't bother coming home" Came home and apart from nostalgia never regretted the decision. Everyone and every situation is different so talk it thjrough and arrive at a decision you can both live with. :t :k

lol, Centaur.....

wise words there matey.....thats exactly what we are trying to do and struggling to come to a decision.....

My contract income is very nice but it means up at 4:30 and not getting home til 7 during the week and quick frankly I am knackered at night and the weekends are a write off.....around 900 miles a week driving too...

But......I am at home with the boss whereas if abroad that wouldn't be the case....

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Couple of words from the old fart..

1) No matter how tempting, remember that the time you spend away from home will never ever be recouped.

2) Eventually no matter how strong a relationship is, this sort of thing will put a tremendous strain on it.

These things I know from personal experience and from seeing it time and again with friends.

As to agency's ..

Dump the feckers.. I was with an agency for 2 weeks.. That was enough !

I ditched them and the job that they gave me.. later that day I was head hunted by the firm I had just left AND another ! ( Settled on ?12.00 an hour plus PAYE and unlimited expenses, but that was in 1997 so you can proly do a LOT better now ! )

Cheers John

those are the thoughts going on in the back of my pea sized brain....

However her indoors did point out a few plus points -

She won't have to listen to me constantly farting and then giggling

She can sleep soundly without my snoring keeping her awake

She can simply burn any bike parcels that arrive with JAWS scribbled all over them (cos they can still be ordered from India) and claim they were never delivered

She can ride the Blackbird without me knowing

Food bills will dramatically reduce

The bed will have considerably more room and be less smelly

Bath time won't consist of trying to get the bubbles a foot above the rim and trying to encourage the dog to jump in for a laugh (if that kinky ?)

So it does have some benefits.......
