Hi ........I have just purchased a full set of wire mesh stuff from j.a.w.s to finish of the fairing vents on the Blackbird.....just wondering if any1 has fitted this before and has any tips.
I believe that I have to fix the stuff in with silicone.....should look superxx

The best way to fix them is to put a small spot of glue from a hot glue gun at the top bottom and both sides, just enough to tack it on and then when it is fixed in place do a bead of silicone all the way round. If you use just glue from a hot glue gun it will melt and run all over the place and then the grill will just fall out.

hello mate

yup fairings off, hot soapy water to scrub around the openings in the fairings, dry it off, place the grills on the fairing and use small amounts to stick it in place, hope this helps
it will only work and hold if the areas around the edges of the holes in the fairing are spotlessly clean mate else the grills WILL fall of at some time ,lol

I don't know what hot glue gun you are using in UK (the one what I bought had in glue specification melting temp 200 deg), ....but my after my last trip to Switzerland completely melted and I lost one grill from lower fairing vents.....maybe its not a glue maybe its a line of silicon bath sealant ?????

BTW Its looks like I need too use something more stronger for hot temp.!

MAN on the PAN
Silicone imho works better as its heat resistant and not as susceptible to vibrations

Normal bath sealent should be fine really, but the very best stuff is the clear 'Dow Corning' silicon .. It is what I used to build BIG ( 2mtr plus ) frameless fish tanks with.

took me an hour and a half, including taking faring panels off and putting them back on. matched the grills up to their relevant panels, silicon-ed one at a time, held in place with house bricks x 2 per grill, when they had "gone off" removed bricks, trimmed any access off and re fitted the panels, didn't go out on the bike until next day though, job done!!

Make sure that you use a clear silicone suitable for bathroom use should take a max of 2 hours drying time 1 hour/ yellow blackbirds look good and go like stink

i did exactly the same as ianrobbo last week, got some black heat resistant silicone form local motorworld and halfords, held them in place with some old weights that where in the garage until the silicone went off.
