I am looking at getting a set of hard luggage for my Blackbird and was wondering your thoughts on the Givi Maxia 52Ltr Top Box. Is this too big for the Blackbird.

Would the Givi V46 46Ltr Top Box be a better bet. I will be getting the panniers as well but would like to be able to fit two Shoei Raid helmets inside

Anyone a photo of either box fitted to their bike just so I can see the size difference

Fancy the fixing system on the blackbird spares site to go with it. Any help appreciated

here's ours....

all kitted out for 9 days touring in Europe...

kappa 48ltr topbox 2x 44ltr paniers & Baglux alpha tankbag... Plenty of capacity for touring & even buying duty free & pressies...LOL... We know, as we have just got back from Germany:-:

Best of luck with the kit... But... Get an SW Motech rack system for your bike... Just unlocks & takes off for normal riding... NO MORE SCAFFOLDING

See www.blackbirdspares.co.uk or www.gobybike.co.uk for details

It cant be beaten...

See thread 'Bird Down' dated Sunday 27 March 2005 for pics of our Black Bird with 52 litre Givi Top box fitted!

I very seldom go out without it and as I also very seldom let Pete out on it without me ...... (so he says)

If it's not on the Bird it's on the Trophy and we're out on that!!

We use 2 x 42 litre Givi's as side panniers. With the rack on the 52 litre and an expandable Oxford magnetic tank bag (c 50 litres fully expanded) we can do a fortnight camping in France no probs.

The original plan was to use the 42 litre as a top box and the Oxford Sports panniers we already own on the Black Bird (the Trophy has its own hard side cases) but we had the 52 litre box because we couldn't get 2 Caberg J1's in the smaller one although our previous helmets did fit. (The Justissimo's we have now don't fit in the smaller one either) So we bought another 42 litre so we got matching side cases? Still with me? and took the backrest off the 42 and put it on the 52. (And filled the holes on the 42!!!)

The only thing missing now is a husband without any broken bones ........

One of the reasons the SW Motech is better than the Givi/Kappa system is that it moves all the boxes further forward on the bike... Only by about 3", but it makes the bike more stable & brings the centre of gravity more forward too......

The downside to this is that there is less room for the pillion (especially with a backrest), so I took it off to give Jan a little more seating room... Her own words were that she doesnt lean against the topbox anyway... Also she wears a backprotector inside her jacket which acts like a backrest anyway

Filled the mounting holes up with blingy gold fairing screws:rolleyes:

See ya on the beach Alison...

:k to ya,

Have just fitted the rack to the bike, quite easy if u like meccano, lol. Joking aside kit was a good fit and exellent quality......unfortunatly the kit was just missing a couple of fixings to secure the top top plate but this will hopefully be resolved by Blackbird Spares soon. Side panniers E41 & 51L top box great quality as well
