Why you have house insurance

'someone' on here hasn't had it for years. Great if you never have any issues.....but.....

This is what a £27,000 repair bill looks like. Someone reversed presumably a van/lorry into the front of my pals house...and drove off. No witnesses. Typically of this sort of incident..he never, ever gives his wife a lift to work...except the day this happened - it was her birthday and she didn't want to take cakes on the bus!

The row of bricks at right angles to the house effectively became a battering ram and pushed the brickwork of the house in by about three inches in places. The front door is about a meter away and couldn't be opened without using a hydraulic ram. Lucky the whole lot didn't collapse.

I'd be canvasing the neighbours to see if any of them has any CCTV footage.

All done.

Happened around 7.30 in the morning on a weekday in a private road of ten houses formed in a cul-de-sac.......must have made a hell of a bang...and nobody heard or saw a thing.

It comes in handy sometimes to have CCTV cameras that actually work :)
I'll get around to it one day - they are so cheap and simple to install now it is almost silly not to.

Although slightly cynical, my view is if there are two houses side by side, one with cctv one without, it'll be the one without that gets burgled.

Cctv will not stop burglars but it may encourage them to set fire to your house to destroy the evidence.

A dvr with a 2tb drive and had cameras can be got for about £200 nowadays

CCTV is only worth it if you check that it's actually recording and that the cameras are functioning.
A mate found that out to his cost when his garage was broken in to and his Harley nicked. He checked the footage only to discover the night of the break in the thieving scum had blacked out the lens of the camera above the garage with a smalll paint roller on the end of what looked like an extendable fishing pole. They were offscreen when they did it.

All my cameras overlap and are quite high.. all bar one...that one can be got at only by being seen by two others, one of which is semi hidden.
I also get text alerts from the setup if any are activated in certain zones

My CCTV has filmed someone walking across the front garden onto the drive trying the car doors,
the guy even saw the camera and just dropped his head and carried on, this has happen twice in about
three years, both times passed over to the police and what happened, nothing as far as I know.
may as well been a dummy camera for the good its done.

Perhaps he should have overlapped the cameras, that way he would have been able to still identify the culprits.
