In all fairness it was not only bean counters, but ludicrous design / engineering ethic too.
The engineers were right of course as the cars were indeed quality, but that quality was not paid for or reflected in the retail price
Prices should have been about 20% higher, but that would have put them out of reach to most..
Saab did not seem able to balance between quality and value for money
