Hey Mick.. if you have got the power lead and cradle I suggest making one ..
Piece of alloy flat plate 5/6mm, bend it so your gps aerial is horizontal to the road and your sorted.. I put a 8mm shouldered nut under the steering head nut to fasten it and rested the bracket on a nylon washer/ spacer..

scaffolding removed  see pics..

That I like :yo:

How many miles have you done with that set up? Any problems with vibrations?

Did you rubber mount the garmin mount?

Incidently, I used my quest the other day to get to Bykebitz in Yately, kept it in the tank bag pocket with the aerial down, didn't loose the signal once! :dunno:
Incidently, incidently, have read about quests jumping out of the garmin mounts.

I bolted the bracket to the garmin mount directly.. not rubber mounted..using the 4 nuts and bolts that came with the mount (power lead)..
Its completely solid with no vibration in the bracket itself at all.

I put the nylon spacer/washer between the bracket and top yoke nut for 2 reasons..
1 to get the key in and out easily
2 protect the paint work on the top yoke nut

only done about 250 miles with it up to yet but I have complete faith in it ..
If the garmins have jumped out the brackets then I would say they were not fitted correctly in the first place or the mount was allready broke.

there are two types in the pic.. 1 for a pushbike mount which is good and the other with the powerlead mount wich allso locks in position ..the power lead one which Im using, you have to take extra care when putting the GPS in as you can get it wrong .. and you think its fitted correctly when it actually isnt...

give me ten mis and ill take a few more pics of the bracket so you can see more clearly :p

Dave, you're a top man. :yo:

Will be having a go at making one of those asap.

Can I ask why you didn't use the ram cradle?

You gotta love this place sometimes.

my pleasure Jon..Ive had some great info off here in the short time Ive been here so only to glad to put a bit back...

The ram cradle is massive compared to mine and looks fug ugly scaffolding when on.. the push bike mount on the cradle at the mo came with my garmin and it doesnt have a power lead but you can run it in there off its own battery but you dont have audio directions then....

you can plug the cable that came with the car mount into it tho but you will need to mount a fag lighter socket on the bike to power it...which has been covered in depth on here.. a lot cheaper option but I decided to get the extra mount (power) lead so I can leave it on permenantly..

not hard to make m8 if you can source a bit of alloy plate apx sizes 3" X 2"

shout up if you need some more help

cheers Dave

cheers dave.

thanks for excellent info on garmin mount, like jon, i too like the look of your
mount, easy to make & fit, neater than all the 'scaffolding' that some systems have.did you get the nut welded in the underside of the steering stem nut or
some other demon method?
anyway, thanks again! mick

Nope Mick very very simple when you know how lol
just an 8mm shouldered nut that doesnt need welding or anything because it cant go anywhere ....put a stainless dome head in when your not using the bracket on the bike ...looks very neat

thanks again guys test flight completed!

as follow-up to all the suggestions for the garmin mounting, i copied oldbull's design in theory at least, fabbed up a bracket from 4mm ally, bent it to suit, it was easy to sort angle, tried rubber mounts from a vauxhall vectra airbox mount, they were ok but found no rubber best. totally solid fix to the steering stem nut and so far it's been good. up to the north west 200 from portland, a total of 1100 miles and the mount worked a treat!! cheers again.
