we have been offered a little caravan for 30 quid, not very good on outside needs a bit of work but clean on inside.we own two carparking spaces outside our house, can we legally leave this caravan outside on these spaces permanently or do we need planning. for 30 quid its ideal when family and friends stop when most are frightened of dogs. thanks bev

Title Deeds

Hopefully we will have a friendly solicitor on the site but two thoughts. If the parking spaces are on your property check your title deeds for any restrictions and secondly most house insurance policies give access to free advice from a solicitor, Hope this helps. :yo:

No doubt it varies from area to area, but around here there are caravans parked up all over the place..in the road, on grass verges, parking areas....
As long as it has wheels, is clean and tidy ( not an eyesore ) I doubt there is much anyone can do about it Rob ...

Now as it happens.. We did have this one parked up outside for a while ( those who have been to my house will know that it is parked in the parking ara just outside my place )

Des ( son in law ) had it shipped up from his family in Kent.. Dunno where it is now though..

Ah, an old Romany Gypsy caravan, Romanies were true gypsies, friendly, loyal and hard working, great people! Shared a few meals with them during the apple harvest when I worked on the farm in Kent (late 70's) even tried baked hedgehog, and it was nice, yes very nice people, who I shall always have fond memories of. Not like the diddys you get nowadays.

Re Caravan

Grey area this one. If its in someones way on a public access route then its obstruction.......if it has wheels it does'nt need planning permission as its mobile....
It cannot be left un-attended on a public highway!!!!!!!
If it's a communal rear yard with allocated spaces then you could be in breach of a tennancy agreement and if its public land then there could be local bylaws your infringing upon..
I have an old 10' Sprite on my drive for storage but the neighbours cannot do a thing about it.

Hope it helps a touch

Have a look on your house deeds, when we lived in chelmsford It was stipulated on our deeds that we could not have a caravan in view of the general public, also we weren't allowed to hang washing out in view of the public, however the previous occupant had a 30ft boat on a trailer outside the house, and on the common land over the road a load of diddicoits set up sight with their caravans, and washing on view for all to see, and when people complained the council said that they were powerless to act
