Well, picked up a set of used stock wheels and sent them off to the powdercoater, picked them up last week. Although the pics don't do them justice, they are the dog's danglies in person.

It is a textured powder called silver vein. They also clear coated them as parrt of the price. Waiting for new tires to arrive and friend to get bearings pressed in, so I can mount them up.

Ahhh....wheels from E-Bay were $325, included near new D205,s ( gave to a friend) and a near new rear sprocket ( will re-use when mounting). Powdercoating was $250, included stripping, powdercoating and clear coating.

Ian, it is prolly a combination of the clearcoat and the camera flash. From a few feet ( meters) away, they almost look like a metallic gray. You can see the silver veining effect when you get up closer. The flash sort of hides that veining effect. They told me that the powder goes on looking mostly black, they veining appears when they put them in the oven to "bake" them. Says it almost looks like wax melting. :dunno:
