Following a fastish run to Donnington yesterday, just we are about to set off for the return leg , I noticed this ........

the silver bit on the spoke are where the pin has machined the spoke away, on all three spokes ....... approximatley 50% of the metal thickness is missing from each of the spokes.

Question?
Do you think we was lucky to have made it one piece????

answers on a post card with a ?5 note attached, cos I needs a new wheel.

I went very cold thinking about what could have happened if the GP was a lot farther away from my house .........

I bought a brand new bandit in 1999, put it in for it's first service, no problems, adjusted back wheel when chain got slack, however after a couple of times I couldn't get the back wheel to adjust, so I got a mobile mechanic to take a look, he had to knock the bolt out of the back wheel with a hammer and screwdriver, turns out there was no grease on it. so I rung Powersport in Bradford (where I purchased the bike) and they said that they do not check for things like that, either on servicing or on taking initial delivery of the bike. I asked who's responsibility it was to check this.. his answer...."Yours mate" Suzuki... customer care. words that just don't go together.

Still kickin' it!
...Mike...

...Writing stuff can be tricky...

...Because it's not the same as talking to you directly...

...But....

Buy a NEW bike....

...You've had more problems in the past couple of years (with bikes) than I've had in a lifetime.

...You've got twice as many people to look after now (You and Andrea)...

...So just make sure that you're riding "Safe"...

...Have a "think" about it, M8...

Could'nt you hear it catching :dunno: , when my caliper came loose i stopped after hearing it grating against the metal, ok, damage was done but that looks severe.
Lucky you stayed upright. 8l1nd

Couldn't hear anything

catching at all, but given the bike isn't the quietest, that's not surprising.

The only "indication" that something was odd, was that when we set off in the morning, I was getting a fair bit of vibration through the 'bars, which I thought was down to a soft front tyre. Checked the tyre pressures after about 30 minutes and it was down to 33 from 41, so topped it off and the vibration went away.

With the benefit of hindsight, think the pin moved whilst I was doing the tyre, so that's why the vibration stopped. By then the damage was done.

I'm never going near Donnington again, last year it was feckin diesel in my TRX, this year it was potentially a wheel falling apart, gawd alone knows what it will be next year!!!

Also, as you can see from the picture, not only was the pin not in and secured, it wasn't even "in" in the correct position, i.e. it wasn't retaining the brake pads!

Lucky escape Mike.

Had a similar happen to me with my TCat... two weeks old and the BIL noticed I had one less bolt than him holding on of the front calipers in place.

The words shit and bricks comes to mind...
Done my own servicing ever since

Take care
