I was in a Porsche showroom last week looking at a 911 as it always been a dream of mine to own one when this occured to me :
With the government's insistance on clamping down on speeding in order to line the collective purse and cover up the financial screw ups that they've made. Cameras becoming an overwhelming presence on the roads and the almost inevitable fact that GPS tagging is likely to happen within the next 3 to 5 years Is there really any point in fast cars and bikes anymore ?
Arbitrary enforcement of the law is going to get worse, no longer the traditional game of 'cat and mouse' that it has been, there will be constant monitoring of your bike/car's movement. At the point where this monitoring begins, will it really be worth allocating significant portions of your income into a vehicle that will be restricted to the same speeds as a CG125 or a Fiesta ? What will happen to all the manufacturers ?
The Blackbird for example - A fantastic bike but the main reason I own one is for the thrill of riding it, speed and covering distances in comfort were of major importance but the top-end abiity made me forgive the fact that we live in a country where even the weather seems anti-bike. Would your Bird mean the same to you if it was impossible to exceed the speed limit and get away with it ? No just speeding too. They would be able to tell if you were filtering and some politicians have suggested this should become an offence too. Basically your behaviour on the road would be open to total scrutiny from B.Brother.
Dunno if I'm being paranoid about how bad it could get but where is this likely to end ? there's a distinct possibity that fast bikes and cars could become obsolete before their time :dunno: Looks pretty bleak really.
Reassurances greatly welcomed
