My first fully road legal was a brand new H100s but I'd been using various stuff on the road since the age of about 14 including going to school on a 750/4 at about 15 :D

Something similar to above. I rattle canned mine in Vauxhall Honey Stardust (metallic gold) and it had knobbly tyres , rat trap pedals, huge cow horn bars and all the other cool bits of the day. Converted it to a ten speed derailleur after a few years.

Gave it away to my next door neighbour who promptly had it nicked.

Great bike. Loved the cow horns, much better than ape hangers.

I had a BMW F650GS as my first bike. Owned it 3 months and it went back to the dealer 5 times for warranty work, only got to ride it for about 3 weeks in total. The last time I took it in I handed the keys back and had my money back.

Then brought a CBR1000F, fantastic bike and very comfortable but sold it after a couple of years due to not using it (Which I now regret) but kids were little and it wasn't going to be used anytime soon.

Then the kids got older so I went looking for another CBR1000F but discovered the BBird, which I'm never going to sell. If I fancy a change in the future it will be in addition to the bird, not a replacement.

Now I know this thread is old but it deserves more,so.....

My first legal bike, Suzuki GS125 ES - oh yes, Electric Start.

I moved on from this to a less legal Suzuki GS400F, after kids and a divorce I passed my test and got a ZZR600. Loved the ZZR so after I totalled it I got another one.
After that I had a really nice Triumph Daytona 955, a bitch in Oxford killed that one so I got a Triumph Sprint 1050.
Now apart from the shit alarm it was surprisingly good and quick but I then tried to calm myself down with a Suzuki GS850 trike. I just could not love the trike so I got myself a nice sensibility Blackbird

Very nice squag1, if I didn’t have to sell a kidney I’d love a small vintage British bike.

I had a 650gs as my first 'big bike'. Pretty much ideal for a newbie in my opinion. Amazing punch from the Rotax single.

Even sounded great when I blew the exhaust manifold off the cylinder on the way to work one morning. Looked good as well with blue flame squeezing out around the joint when the spark ignited.

MY first bike was a Lambretta LD150 which dad bought me when I was 14, with the promise that if I got it going he would buy me a proper bike
I got it going but he never get me a bike ....
Eventually through my paper round and a window cleaning round I cobbled together I bought a James Captain deluxe .. The deluxe part was because it had a pillion seat...
Got nicked on it ( under age , no test, tax or insurance ) and had to sell it.
A few months later I bought a Royal Enfield Bullet, ready for my 16th birthday ... Although registered as a 250 it was, of course, a 350 though I never realised at the time and only found out years later
So my first road legal bike was not quite as road legal as I thought !
Mine was £5 and was hand painted british racing green :)

Make sure to get a Villiers engine. That is an AMC as far as I can remember. the chain case always leaked as the rubber seal was not a "thing", you bought it from a coil and jointing it was impossible.
Mine didn't have a damper in the back originally. I got one off a scrapped bike, made a great difference.

I'm came pretty late to bikes getting my first bike in 2008. The 'bird was my second after I felt I'd outgrown my CBR600F (2006). Amazing bike to start riding on and to grow my riding ability with. I used it for commuting, a couple of tours and enough track days to take me from Novice to Inters. Fond memories.

First road legal bike was a Suzuki TS100, bought brand new on 1 April 1983 as a 17 birthday present to myself. Couldn't ride it legally until 9th but just riding it up and down the road outside the house (honest officer) it had almost 300 miles on it by the time I could legally go on the road. Had a few others after that but my next new bike was a Kawasaki ZX6R J1 bought 1 April 2000 as a birthday present to myself.
