But it's a well known fact that you can't grow hair and brains.

Not so sure that is quite true !! In fact the reverse because ....I think I have the brainiest nose and ears on here !!

Shows the average age of this forum ( though 45's are making a come back in a big way )

I had a few records that I was given as presents, but the first 45 I bought was Johnny, Remember Me, by John Leyton ..... It was 1961... I was 12 years old, and I bought it Woolworths, Barking

You're a year older than my mum! :couch:

I was given a Grundig radio cassette player for xmas one year in the mid to late 70's & after a few days of radio Caroline & radio Luxembourg I bought a cassette of Mud's greatest hits ................ that's neat that neat I really................. :D

Can't remember the exact first 45, but it was played on the houses radiogram.
I then built my own bedroom system. Garrard turntable, a valve stereo amplifier that was used in jukeboxes and homemade speakers.
Stereo records were still the exception rather than the rule and I bought a stereo sounds effects LP to demonstrate this amazing sound system.

Sounds familiar. Aged about 13 I bought a Garrard SP25 ( I think) turntable kit and built my own plinth.

Found a pair of amazing white Perspex speaker carcasses for £5 that were about four feet tall and added my own speakers, four in each carcass. Second hand Akai amp and I was away...... actually sounded pretty good.

Can't imagine there are many kids around these days doing stuff like that......

Prepare to be surprised :D

My mates lad plays in a pretty good punk band & between the 3 of us we have made all the speaker carcases specifically tuned to give the sound they want, its such a different effect from these fairly basic boxes that the lad has now made a few sets for various bands around the country & the cheeky fecker hasn't even bought us a drink out of the proceeds :risas3:

Chirpy chirpy cheap cheap by middle of the road.. Played on a record player that when you closed the lid there was a leatherette carrying handle a bit lie a suit case. After a couple of years we upgraded to a Ferguson Stereo record player. Our (me and my brother) record purchases then went into overdrive purchasing many other great cringeworthy classics along the way:D
