Doh! Like fook I didn't.
It's well known it was held together with bolts, that's why it fookin sank. :risas3:
She hit an iceberg resulting in six compartments flooding. That’s why she sank, you tit

Besides, Titanic never actually sank; it was her sister-ship Olympic.

No ship is bolted together. Ever. Fact!

There’s a conspiracy theory that refuses to go away. Titanic and her sister-ship Olympic were near identical. Apparently, the names on the two ships were changed at the last minute, something to do with a big insurance rip-off, I forget now. Whilst the ship that sank had ‘Titanic’ painted on the bows and across the transom, it was actually Olympic after she’d been re-named.

No place for conspiracy theories on here…..

Wasn't it something to do with the Olympic being involved in a collision with a battleship and being unable to sue the Navy for the damage..? Supposedly she was barely seaworthy after the prang and White Star were facing bankruptcy if they had to scrap her as she was economically unrepairable.

I saw the documentary with Kate Winslett and Leonardo DiCaprio and it was definitely the Titanic

Saw that. Didn't they play the part of themselves in that..?

Too many differences between the Titanic and the Olympic for the swap to have really taken place, since the discovery of Titanic in the 80's many items marked Titanic have been recovered from the wreck and I doubt the white star line would have swapped everything internal from one ship to the other, Olympic was eventually scrapped in the 30's in Scotland and I think some of the scrapper would have noticed the difference, apparently there are many of the bits of Olympic's interior still spread around the country, including wood paneling in a bar still with the id number on it (cant for the life of me remember where) if the Olympic had gone down instead of the the Titanic this would be impossible

As an aside the third ship of the series Britannic also sunk somewhere in the Aegean

I've no doubt it's bollocks, but you have to remember that Pow-lo did the investigation report, so best to keep an open mind.

I think Brittanic struck a mine while operating as a hospital ship.

I remember where the wood paneling went now ... poo plops house :aplastao:

Just looked it up there was an explosion on Britannic suspected to be a mine but not really proved, 30 died as crew tried to lower lifeboats while the captain was steaming to try and run the ship aground the rest survived

Perhaps this should be in another thread, but as the Titanic is mentioned here I decided to say here

we were in Budapest some years ago having a meal in a nice restaurant. On our way out one of the lads saw a grand piano in the foyer and went up to it, sat down, and started to play. Here we were, rufty, tufty bikers, and one of us can tinkle the ivories. Not only could he play, but he could properly play. Good enough that we stayed there for a long time gathering a crowd listening to him. Of course expected to get chucked out but instead he got a round of applause.

Anyway, the reason for this recollection of mine - on the top of the piano was a notice in German and Hungarian - no it didn’t say to keep off - and getting it translated it stated that this piano had been destined for use on the Titanic, but missed the boat in reality, and ended up in a warehouse prior to the initial launch and subsequent movie.

it’s interesting getting these memories coming back to me of times a long time ago.

On the same trip we encountered a blacked out Police van, out of which a half dozen armoured, gunned up, balaclava’d military type police waving machine guns around. One of our group took a couple of photographs while we went ‘oh for fecks sake don’t” just in case he got shot or arrested or something. To our surprise one of them took his balaclava off and posed for a photo. This was back in the days when most of the cars on the streets were Trabants, Moskvitch and Ladas.
