What have you done today ?

I’ve packed out the MH with enough clothes to last us a couple of months. Then I’ve loaded up the underfloor storage with plenty of tinned and dry foods. Then there was miss Molly’s dried and wet foods - stuff we can’t get while away so as not to upset her routine and stomach. Then the medicines, we’ve got enough between us to start a pharmacy!
Tomorrow I’ll get the hose out and fill the water tank. I filled the LPG tanks, fuel tanks and adblue a week or so ago.
Some things will have to wait until the last minute.
for now I’ll try to determine what needs to still be done before I worry what I’ve forgotten.
Tunnel is booked for Wednesday.

I bloody hope not, for the last couple of years I've been as busy as a busy thing, I'm hoping for a bit of a rest before the massive list SWMBO has for me takes effect.

Visited the office for the last time, handed in my laptop and phone, robbed the stationery cupboard and gave in my badge, drove off into retirement

Definitely do all you can. Time goes very quickly. I can't believe that I'm retired 15 years. Though I did wonder about doing the BMW rally this time. But my brother kept on Burgman until he was 82. He's 91 in October, still very mobile.

Today I was astounded to feed the cable to hard Wire the Sky boxes down a cavity wall from the attic in about three minutes. A few months ago it took myself and Mrs G over two hours to feed the cable for digital interwebs down exactly the same route. No rhyme nor reason to it.

i am now sat watching the football trying to summon up the energy to put the tools away - took the opportunity to put a 13a supply in with more outlets to accommodate the extra gear required for fibre delivery and hide all the new cables.

Thought I would give the boiler a run by heating the hot water as it hasn’t been used since about March (solar heats the water) other than monthly five minute runs to keep the pump clear. Probably unnecessary as I think the system is run ‘cold’ by the boiler overnight on a regular basis for the same reason.

Seems the three port valve is stuck as no flow going to the tank. Towel radiators warming up nicely so it must be the valve. The lever on the valve is floppy, moving it achieves nothing.

It’s a bungalow, Anyone with a brain would put the valve in the attic where it is easily accessible. No, let’s stick it at the back of the airing cupboard where it is a pain to work on.

Boiler service due, think I’ll leave it to the plumber to sort. There was a time when I would be all over it myself but I can’t be arsed now. Hopefully just the motor banjaxed.

Other than my tame plumber Chris I am again on a mission to exterminate all plumbers. Bet whoever installed the three port valve wouldn’t have put it there if it were their own house.

Oxford is such a lovely place. Well worth doing a walking tour if you haven’t already.

Cambridge is pretty cool as well - best seen from a punt on The Cam!

Today I have marvelled at how someone dealt with a c80 foot conifer in a neighbouring garden that was towering over their property.

Hard to make out in the google photo……..in the absence of action from the owner they called a tree surgeon in and cut it back precisely to the boundary. i understand the removed material was thrown over the fence to the ‘owner’ of the tree as they are entitled to do.

Hopefully that will kill it. Personally I would be spraying what is left with poison to make sure.

Out for a 40 minute ride on the Daytona, which is all my ageing body can cope with on that bike. Went home & swapped it for the Tiger for another 90 minute ride with a coffee (no cake) stop.

Got home & finally set up the home network properly. Now running much faster & can stream video from the NAS seamlessly. I can now also get a good WiFi signal in the dining room which I couldn't before. AI does have its uses.

Well yesterday now, my first day of retirement. Was on the road by 06:30 to beat the worst of the traffic heading to Kent to sit with my mum as she is nearing the final sleep.
Not quite how I'd envisaged retirement but hey ho.
