Went round to my mother 8n laws and replaced a 13a socket, replaced the batteries in the smoke alarms and sprayed her patio and driveway with weedkiller.

All under well hidden duress, but good for house points with Mrs B.

Shaved my hair (no.2) then out to the farm shop this morning to get some bird food. Had to have compulsory coffee & cake, although I opted for a cheese scone. Mrs L had her usual apple & cinnamon cake.

Then in to town for the weekly shop. Got home around 2.30 so took the Trophy out for a blast, not far, only a 45 mile round trip.

Rattlers in the fridge & just about to put the oven on for my pizza.

Today i have submitted two company tax returns. In their wisdom HMRC have stopped submissions being made direct, you now have to use a third party provider.

having paid £20 for each company i was able to fill out the exact form that i have completed in previous years for the company. If anything it was more of a pain in the arse As all sorts of reference numbers have to be included.

what is really effing stupid is that the corporation tax bill for one of the companies is £15.88, this being tax on interest, the company doesn't do anything other than hold a bank deposit (that the bank have messed up But that’s another story)..and it has cost me £20 to make the return.

I suppose at least the £20 is tax deductible….

Went round to me mums for coffee & a nice home made fruit cake.

Then had to sort out my stepdads tax return. He receives a small german pension which differs from month to month depending on the exchange rate, so we have to complete a self assessment return every year.

A simple job you'd think except HMRC has changed the returns for 2025/26. Now bear in mind both Mrs L and I used to work for HMRC as trainers, it took over an hour to sort out. Here's one example of the stupidity of the system.

Question: Is your income for 2026/26 over £35,000? There are two answers, Yes and No. in our case, it's NO, so I tick the No box, get to the bottom of the page and an error message comes up. I go back to the page and the £35k qanswer has defaulted to Yes. I tick No. an error message comes up, go back a page and the £35k questio has again defaulkted to yes.

I select the help box below where it tells me to select No if the annual income is less than £35k., but if you select Yes, and your income is less than £35k your winter fuel allowance will not be recovered.

WHAT'S THE POINT OF THE EFFIN QUESTION?

In one of the sections to do with foreign income, all the questions were answered No. An erroe message came up stating if the section was not relevant, to delete it. I deleted it and the system deleted ALL of the foreign income section, not just the page in question. The question I got wrong was something like 'Did you receive any foreign dividend Got that one right the answer was No. what I missed was a box where I had to put in a figure for how much foreign dividend was received. I should have entered £0, leaving it blank or simply entering 0 wasn't good enough. Surely if the answer to the previous question was NO, why enter an amount?

There were many more 'double negative' questions in the foreign income page. No wonder neither of my parents who are both in their 80's could successfully submit the return when two ex HMRC trainers took over an hour to figure it out.

Anyway, the fruit cake was nice (y)

There is a room somewhere where sadistic little people who had their heads shoved down the bogs at their public Schools sit down coming up with pathetic ideas of how to make the simple difficult

Today I again had a good experience with the GP surgery proving that if you aren’t dying most of the time there is no need to see a GP.

Bastard cough won’t go, had it since I had strep throat in May (extremely unpleasant). Saw a respiratory nurse at the practice a couple of weeks ago (same day through online triage) who had a good listen to my chest while ogling my body, conclusion is that it should clear up on its own. However, sputum sample taken (which didn’t show anything adverse).

Did the online triage thing today, GP called within the hour, prescribed medication, ten minutes later text from the chemist saying it was ready for collection.

Work with the system and it’s fine……
