After what must rate as one of the most disasterous trips of all time....(Full tales to follow).....We are back from the German Treffen for 2004 which was based in (what was) the old East Germany.....
We managed to miss the ferry from Harwich to Cuxhaven, when Jan left her handbag with all our money/cards/Jans Insulin/tablets/etc etc. at Jaws house in Thetford after a stop for servicing on the Bird on the way down... So we had to go via "DENMARK"(Esjberg) to germany.... which adds about 500 miles to the journey (which we panned off in just about 4.5 hours ...(no faster than 130kph in Denmark, as they confiscate your bike/car if caught & have guns :shooter: )
Then the following day it poured with rain for the 200 mile run to Georgethal which was in the old GDR. Resulting in a 2.5 hour journey turning into a 6 hour nightmare....(still, I managed to get pissed as a fart on Friday night-nowt new there then :h )
Saturday ride out was with another 87 XX 's which was done in dark & dismal weather conditions. And after a delightful meal at a 5star hotel for lunch, it started to really piss down, so we all went for a blast through one of the longest tunnels in Europe (7.8kms.... yes all 88 of us... fook, the noise was wonderful) Then we headed back to our hotel to get showered/changed ready for Saturday nights piss up (yes... Blitzed again...hee hee hee- do you see a pattern forming ??? )
Sunday was just a photo day and saying goodbye to everyone, and head off to bed for another kip (Oh my head)...
Monday dawned bright and sunny, and Jan & I packed and headed off back to Hanover for our journey home... 45 mins into the journey at 80mph we had a rear tyre blow out whilst in a contraflow amongst loads of wagons on the autobahn( Arsehole twiching rather a lot... ) After a wait of 6 hours trying to get new tyres, we left Eisenach on a new pair of 020's(Bird specific of course)... on one of the best roads I have ever ridden... After only 6 or 8 kms, Jan says "we are a long way over arent we"?? "how do you know"??? says I.... "Coz I can put my hand on the floor" !!! she says... Oooops. thinks I......... BIG GRIN TIME...
So, piccies will follow later, but thats enough for now...We had a fabulous time despite all the traumas, but it was still all worth it...Just under 2000 miles in 7 days.... Bit of a sore arse, and a few leg cramps, but yes... I would do it all again tomorrow...
Good to be back all,
See ya soon,
Rolfy & Jan
