HI,
I see in the MCN about MOT's they say that if a bike is fitted with a after
market HID headlight bulb it will be a MOT fail.
Anyone had an MOT lately with a HID fitted and if so was it a problem.

A friend of mine had his BMW fail a couple of weeks ago purely on the fact it was a HID .... so he went elsewhere.

rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Had HID in my Bird for 7 years, never an issue, adjusted correct always passed,
but May 2018 the usual garage told me, things changed in March 2018, HID conversion is now a MOT fail, we will pass it now but you will have to sort it for next year, I then asked about the LED I have in the high beam, told that's not a problem, just HID?
so went on GOV MOT manuals website and he's right,
so it looks like swap the HID bulb for MOT in May, then back

MOT manuals section 4 -

"Some motorcycles may be fitted with high intensity discharge (HID) headlamps. Existing halogen headlamp units shouldn’t be converted to be used with HID bulbs. If such a conversion has been done, you must fail the headlamp."

Isn't it great how something that improves your safety is now banned by the new MOT, a check that's supposed to confirm that your vehicle is roadworthy and safe to use.

There is a section on LED lights & reading through it I see no reason why its shouldn't pass as long as it conforms to the light pattern as required by all headlights

And I'm still trying to figure out why both I & my mate missed the bit on HID lights, looked again today & sure enough its there as described above ...................... maybe we were both blinded by one of the stupid things on the way to the shop :p
