Week Touring in Ireland, magic !!

Just back for a couple of days before off on the bike again around Northern Engerland !

Was in the North West of Ireland, around Donegal from our base in Letterkenny, for a week and the weather was bloody marvellous, as you can see from the photos I took to prove it ! First one is overlooking Gweedore Bay and the other is near the Northenrnmost point in Ireland at Ballygorman, good eh !

Scenery, food, drink, etc, etc, fantastic. What did amaze me though was there are still dickheads in 4 wheels who spend all their days and nights driving around little towns in circles. We were even on a quiet road in the middle of nowhere one day, parked up in a layby taking more photos and this dickhead in a Sierra (year really!) doing donuts in the middle of the main road ! DUH !!! I thought that stoopidity was the sole domain of dickheads over here !!

Anyway the weather was great which meant we could see plenty of the country, one other thing we noticed was the distinct lack of any bikes or bike shops over there, anyone out there know why ?

Still, great week, now all we need is another dry week next week please!

Glad you had a good run and fine weather. I'm hoping to get over therre for a few days later this summer if I can.

As for the strange road circles, you get the odd everwhere I'm afraid.

In Eire I came across a 60-70 year old spied from a long distance standing on a largish grassy bank on a junstion by the roadside. As he spotted me coming down the road he suddenly jumped down and did the classic "hands in the pocket, whistling, looking at the sky and trying to appear normal".
All became clear as I neared - he'd been standing up on the grassy bank next to a town direction sign which had been been turned around so it pointed in the wrong directions for the various place names.
I'd seen quite o few where this had been done but it was the first time I ever saw anyone doing it - had me in stiches as I'd imagined some young yobbos - not OAP's........

Classic !
The best one I saw was when we were heading out of Stranraer, somebody had turned the 'FOOTBALL TRAFFIC' sign pointing right into the sea ! Maybe a supporter!!

BB yeah Thursday was crap, but that was the day we decided to walk around Letterkenny and sample the local shops, saved getting the bike wet !!
