One of the biggest factors is what syndicate(s) at Lloyd’s are underwriting the risk for the insurance company.. The syndicates have risk parameters, say ‘motor car low risk’ or ‘motorbike new rider’ or ‘motor car high value 55+ driver’.

If the customer misses those parameters when getting a quote from a particular company they may well still get cover but at a higher premium than if they hit the right syndicate. That explains The outrageous multi thousand pound quotes that appear when using the meerkat site or similar.

A good example is my cover through Hastings; they basically offer two types of policy and the difference in premium for me runs into many hundreds of pounds.

Sometimes using a broker that really understands the syndicates behind the various companies/policies can pay dividends.

Well, ALL bikes now insured.
MZ Mastiff with Swinton.
Bird & Passo both with Devitt, but not a multi policy. They were both cheap enough as individual quotes, so a ball ache to source & a relatively happy outcome.
I'll stop whinging now & get back to normal mode.

I found that's why talking to Bikesure was good. If the quote didn't look good they'd try a different underwriter.
