Need some help off the sheep worriers please :p

was going to have a weekend away in wales this easter but seeing as the weather has gone bad on us again it will have to be put on hold for a wee while..

anyway, this has now given me the opportunity to sort a nice route out with the help of our Welsh colleagues...

My mother is from Wales and I spent most of my school holls down there at my nans when i was a lad. Not had chance to go since so we have decided to have a tour, long weekend down there with our friends ..

My Nan lived in a place called Cwm (Gwent) used to be called Monmouthshire when I was a lad, so what I had in mind to do is, motorway ming it down there (about 160 miles) spend a few hours remenising stopping off along the way at Symonds Yat. Moving on to places called Crickhowell and Hay on Wye which also have very fond memories for me..
We will B&B it at Crickhowell and then move on up to Snowdonia national park where we can stay another night and do some sightseeing etc..
so what I need is a nice scenic route sorting please, pref in mapsource,
pretty please ladies and or gents ..:k

Make sure you go via the Vale of Elan @ Rhyeader [sp] It very nice when the weathers good...

Most roads around Mid Wales are great, and little policed, North Wales to me is now biker unfriendly...

And Stan and Bert live in South Wales....... b0x1

A single weekend is not long enough to get the full benefit of mid-Wales, you know, but you will enjoy what you do get to ride. Once you've done Cwm Elan and come back to Rhayader, head north to Llangurig, hang a right to Llanidloes and take a left in Llangurig for the Clwedog Dam. Carry on past the dam and just after Staylittle, hang a right for Dylife and Machynlleth. Look to the right just after you turn (there's layby if you want to stop) for a great view down a deep valley. Then carry on and just enjoy the mountain road to Mach. When you get to Mach(ynlleth) turn left (there's a great little cafe on the right down there) then turn right at the end and once you get to to end of that road you're in Snowdonia. Turn right for Dolgellau. There's the Centre for Alternative Technology on the right, Corris Craft centre just up the road, a Gold mine tour from Dolgellau, Cader Idris............

Oh, just enjoy!!!!

And don't forget to drop by Beddgelert, another great little village.

Hi Dave,
there's lots of great routes that'll take you to Snowdonia.
If you head down to the Llandovery area there's quite a few bird mbrs who you could meet up with.
Let me know when your coming Oh and there's the sheep fest in August.

And if you wanna come to the 2008 Blackbird bash, then part of the Saturday ride out is the Elan Valley, which will give you a nice taster for a full weekend riding.

Best wishes,

Rolfy

What's Mapsource?

Ah, I see, it's what Garmin uses, but how do I get it on my laptop?

I concur here. Devil's bridge is worth a stop too. Turn right at the junction and have a cuppa the other side of the bridge, then take a walk into the gorge to see the falls and back up the other side. Walk back across the bridge and then turn your bike around and head for Aber. There's also a great pub called the Halfway, half way between Devil's Bridge and Aber (Pisgah way). We've even camped in their car park.

Elan vally it is then, Ive sorted a couple of B&B's so we will ride down Friday and visit cwm, first night at Crick Howell apx 160 miles motorway for most of them..

Nice gentle tour through Elan vally on the Saturday and up to snowdonia and spend Saturday night in betwsycoed.. apx 140 miles
can meet up for this one if anyone fancies

Set off for home on the Sunday through Llangolen and Winsford then over the cat and fiddle.. again apx 150 miles

all in all a nice three days riding without having to make up too much milage in any day..

Many thanks to everyone for the input, I will post up when we are comming down... sooner rather than later if this fuggin weather will ever break :bang:
