Hello to everyone,
I feel a bit of an imposter as I don't actually have a blackbird...not yet!
Had a vfr800 for the last year or two and while its a great bike I could do with something with more room on the back for my girlfriend who finds the vfr a bit cramped on the back(shes 5f10)> Am I right in thinking the blackbird will be a good choice for a bit more room(plus tons more go etc etc).
Any advice and opinion greatfully received......

I had a CBR600 then wanted to swap it fora VFR800 (nice sensible step up i was being told) however when i took the VFR out for a few test rides i was not that impressed yes there seemed a bit of grunt when over taking in high gears but not enough didnt take the wife on the back of the vfr has she was put off after going on the back of the CBR and all cramped up.

Then as we were leaving another VFR test ride my Dad told me to stop being a d**k and grow a set and have a ride on his Bird did this and thought it was good better than the VFR but still felt a bit too big more so when i was moving it in the carparks however next day was sunny and dry and after a little sweet talking i was given his bike for the day 340 ish miles later and i was sold on the bird power was imense and so easy to ride turned out when i got back to my dads house he knew i would wont one and had found my one on here. 4 days later i was the proud owner of my own bird and have never looked back.
only down side is the wife loves it loads of room on the back very comfy for her and me.
go for the Bird you wont be dissapointed

vfr for sale!!

Thanks for that, that was pretty much what I wanted to here! Your dad sounds like a cool guy. So yeah I guess a bird it is then. 1998 Vfr 800 with 7000 miles on the clock anyone?

Clueless in most things
being tallish I would have to agree in that the viffa is a good one person or two small people bike but two decent size people then a bird will not dissapoint

You'll love the bird, 5ft10, she'd also benefit with Jaws rear peg lowering kit.. if she's long legged... about the same height as my daughter, she finds them perfect.. 20mm lower, 20mm further forward..setting.

Last summer we (myself and girlfriend) spent 10 days in the Czech Republic with the Bird. After a total of around 4000 km, we where very satisfied about the comfort of the bike. Also luggage is no problem. A big topcase from Givi, two bags on the side, and a Bagster tankrucksack.

@tu* you cannot go wrong with the bird, had a VFR until i changed to the bird 3 years ago, and it is a balls out missle, (in other peoples hands, i only do 72 mph officer).
the pillion comfort is great, SWMBO is 5'11" and i am 6'2", and we are never cramped.
apart from a scottoiler, hugger, DB screen the only thing i have done is to change to a comfy seat.
i keep thinking there must be something i can do to the bird, but i always come back to what????
oh, and its silver/grey in colour..

cheers..

It's good that you got the primer colour until you decide what colour to finish with.

One thing I keep seeing pop up is the hid conversion which apparently gives you more light for less charge and not much money but also gives the cages more chance of seeing you

ive got the scottoiler, hugger and front fender extender and just fitted the DB screen this week did a trip the other day but no to far however i did notice it was money well spent.
what seat did you go for i need to change mine been using my dads corbin seat for the last few months while he served a ban but he will wont it back next week i only got my bird this April so not done to many miles on the standard seat but do think it will be a worth while investment.
As for the HID lights somthing else i fancy doing was out with another bird who was behind me he had them and looked great

I fitted HID to dip and 130watt to main... I had to fit a HID to main as I couldn't tell if the 130watt was on the HID's are bloody superb.

HID all the way

Once you have ridden with real HID, not pretend fake HID h7 bulbs you will never go back. Casts a shadow even in sunlight. I really believe it reduces the chances of a car pulling out on you.

A few points from experience

6000K is best clear white light with the merest hing of blue. Dont pansy around with strange boy racer (illegal) colour profiles.

Most kits are 35w, which will give around 3 times as much light as a 100 watt H7 bulb

Now available 50/55 w units that give around 5-6 times as much light as a 100watt H7.

Always buy slimline ballasts if you have an injection bird, they are about the size of your i-phone and can be fitted onto the shelf under the headlight. Standard car type ballasts will not fit

HID excites gas to give out the light, so no fillament to fail, thus much less likely to fail

If you are tight on finance, just fit to the dipped beam, i prefer both.

Enjoy grant
