Update on me XJ650

Here is a quick update on the XJ650 I was given, as some of you know it was parked up for 4 years with the fuel tap on, brake calipers were shot as well.

Well i stripped the carbs down and used carb cleaner, petrol, parafin, bleach, Fairy liquid, nothing worked, so out came the Dremmel with a fine wire brush, cleaned em up a treat, put em back on the bike nothing! stripped down again, had a poke about, put em back on, nothing except for petrol all over the floor. Then got the Haynes manual and realised I'd missed a couple of bits, against advice I poked the jets through with wire (New jets ?2 each, so was not fussed if I did bugger the old ones up) again, found some other bits that were blocked, put it all back together again, and .................................BINGO! runs sweet as a nut, bit of a rattle from the can chain, but think the CCT needs adjusting, I hope!

Brakes, found an old boy, ex mechanic of bikes who re did the caliper seals, could not get the broken nipples out, so instead he put the banjo bolts in with fitted nipples, tried to bleed them but not too sure if the master cylinder is shagged as well, will try again this weekend.

Forks will be coming off end of this month to have new seals fitted, so fingers crossed.

Other than that the bike looks well, concidering its 22 year age.
