Because unlike the mugs who order new the showroom models come loaded with pretty much every toy available at a massive discount....... if you know how to negotiate.......

Mine was 3 months old with 17 miles on it
Doesn't the fact that it was 3 months old and nobody wanted to drive it kind of prove my point?

Yeah, you are right (as normal)....mine was a mere 42% off retail....
Is that all? I would have wanted a lot more than that off a petrol.

You've also ignored the fact that mine was new and your was second hand, which would factor in a greater discount.

To be fair I misdescribed mine as a 'showroom model' - it was actually a cancelled order as the person who ordered it failed the finance check. Quite why anybody who needs to borrow money is allowed anywhere near a bmw showroom is beyond me but that's another story...

They should have suspected he was a lunatic and likely to fail the finance check when they saw the options he had selected.

And that's prolly why you had such an enormous discount; his deposit would have been factored in to your saving. Also, you car is not exactly a big seller but as long as you're happy, that's what matters. I have to confess here though that the 3 GT was also on my list (along with the X3 and X5). Turned out on the day that I didn't so much dislike it, I just much preferred the estate. I'd choose the GT over a saloon though.

The give away to his mental state was when he asked the sales guy where the indicators were

That is pretty dumb. Everyone knows Beemers don’t have indicators!

Two bikes that still stir my blood in remembering are the Bbird and the VTR 1000 SP1/2. Both sublime and at times downright scary. I borrowed the SP1 the day after it had been used by the travelling marshal in the NW200 and it took two tank fills in the same day before my blood stopped fizzing and I thought about putting something in my belly. My first ride on a Bbird was extremely scary as it almost literally fell into corners. I was delivering it from Ireland to England and was so pleased to hand it over to it's new owner in one piece. On inspection it was discovered to have a 25mm spacer on top of the shock. I rode it later with a 5mm spacer and fell in love. I bought one a couple of weeks later. :D

Yup, I tried an Sp1 donkeys years ago and it was crazy.

Suspected it would be the same as driving a modern Mini Cooper i.e. a hoot for a few minutes then the reality of how impractical it was for the real world would set in.
