Morning all
Occasionally I use my Bird for the occasional commute into London (I start work earlier or finish later than my trains)

I’ve been happily getting the train or riding my Bird into work and parking free nearby ....

However with the ULEZ zone being introduced soon-ish, I checked my bike (a 2000 Bird) and I will have to pay the ULEZ fee
If I use the car ... ULEZ is free as it’s Euro6 compatible But I will end up paying Congestion Zone charges
Either way I will end up paying something !

So apart from changing my bike .. which I dont want to do .
Any cheap ULEZ free bike suggestions (NOT pedal !) I could use as a commuter bike VERY occasionally ???

If you don't want to pedal because of distance that's a fair point but if not have you thought about an electric bike? They can be expensive but a few models are now being sold at less than a grand.

You are spot on !
BUT don’t fancy the A3 on a bicycle OR the 5am start
Interesting point - when I regularly commuted on a bicycle a large chunk of the journey was on the A2.....that had lovely wide red tarmac 'hard shoulders' thatbwas ideal for cycling. Just had to be ultra wary on the slip roads for junctions but other than that it was, well, brilliant. Central London traffic wasn't an issue either, most of the time it was barely moving and it just felt good making progress while the car drivers usually went nowhere fast.

I used to race one of the commuter coaches I used home from London Bridge - they would only beat me if they had a really good run.....my journey time varied by about five minutes.

Don't rule out cycling...there has been a massive investment in the cycling network and the Transport Minister promised more to come a few weeks ago.

Only downside is rain - I never did the journey in the rain...not intentionally anyway!!

My understanding is the bird is actually ulez compliant but you have to pay Honda for the certificate.

I'm sure there was a thread on here about it?

I didn't pay anything for the Certificate of Conformity from Honda or the registration by TFL.

THANKYOU ALL

I have filled out a form to confirm and prove my Bird is ULEZ compliant and await for the confirmation letter which I will send off to ULEZ to advise I have a low emissions
(Assuming my 2000 inj Bird fits into this category)

Let’s see.... I do have a while before ULEZ kicks in

A little update .....
As my bike is a 2000 registered bike Honda cannot give a COC for it
I gave to get an emissions test / certificate
Has anyone done this and how easy / hard is it ?
The level has to be less than 0.15g/Km Nox
Thankyou

There is a firm in London somewhere specifically set up to do the job and issue a certificate that is accepted by TFL

Canna recall the details I am afraid but google will be your friend :)

I got my Nox and Co2 emissions certificate

the readings were well below the levels requested and I sent the copy off to Congestion and ULEZ head offices
About a week later I was informed by email my Bird is FREE in the congestion zone and FREE in the ULEZ zone ….
result !!!

cost was £165 to get the certificate …. But that pays for itself after two weeks commuting into the ULEZ and paying !!
