Avons newer 3D tyres are a better bet, been using them
for a couple of months now and they were faultless chasing ian robbo when he was in a hurry. Good tread depth, should last well

Touring with extra weight than normal

Would it be an idea to consider the Mitchelin pr4 gt rear with a standard pr4 front when touring with pillion and luggage (wing rack panniers and top box?

Dark Angel

Still kickin' it!
Just stick a pair of Michelin PR4's on and go and enjoy yourself.

Michelins have always been in a class of their own and so much better than the shit-slow-steering-slippy-squared-off-after-a-mile-crap that Bridgestone have always pushed out.

..In my opinion...:-0)

As I have said before - put on what the tyre maker says should be on it. Mixing tyres might have insurance consequences.
Heard of case where cops were proposing to check tyre pressures after accident.

Been out on the 3dm's with a LOT of weight on the bike, it handled faultlessly, and at 3k still showing very little sign of wear, I will continue with these on and keep everyone updated!! @tu*

Sorry Squig but that's rubbish, the only legal requirement is ZR rating. Stick to the correct sizes and there's nothing the law or your insurance can say unless they're worn out.
And yes, after a crash, the police will always check pressures, cos they'll be looking for contributing factors. They'll look at a shit load of other things too if it's serious.

Personally, after all the crap Avons I've had in recent years I'll be sticking with Michelins for the foreseeable future. Pilotroad3's being my choice, as I just can't see any benefits from the 4's for the extra cost.

Seems thread has gone old...

What is the current thinking for touring tyres?

Any hard wearing low cost options?

Looked at maxxis supermax sport touring but looks like they are only lasting 2500 miles... That won't even see me one trip!
