the time has come to replace my old 50" non-hd plasma with something a bit more modern. Interesting to reflect that a) a 55" 4K smart LED can be had for less than a third of what I paid for the plasma over ten years ago and b) a modern 55" tv is actually smaller in every dimension than an old 50" job.

Don't understand why Richer Sounds in Brighton doesn't open until noon tomorrow...glad I checked though!!

Anyone want a perfectly servicable 50" Panasonic plasma tv....??

Hmmmm....that didn't quite go to plan....the shop had a row of OLED TVs under a row of non OLED tvs, amazing difference in picture quality and ability to view from anywhere other than straight on. Had to be done.

Big thumbs up for Richer Sounds (as ever) - great service, knowledgeable staff and...best of all.....can take stuff away rather than have to wait for delivery.

Oh, prices are really good as well...and include a six year guarantee....the one I bought was available for a little more elsewhere...not including an extended guarantee which would add another £150 or so......

Always found Richer Sounds to be top notch for advice and buying entertainment kit. Great aftercare too.

If they start selling motorcycles then I'll be down to my local branch faster than shit through a goose.!

I was watching a program about 4k tv's and they said to get the full effect of 4k you need to sit about 1ft away from the t.v. :eeek:

There seems to be and always has been tons of variance in how good a picture you get.

I have an old Panasonic plasma hung on the bedroom wall, not even HD and saw three years of abuse in university digs....and the picture is fantastic.

In Richer Sounds today there was significant difference in picture quality across the non OLED TVs on display, and some difference between the OLED, although not as marked.

The star of the show was a massive 77" LG OLED at £7499 which was stunning. I almost felt I could walk into the screen and join the action it was so good.

So I suppose what I am saying in a roundabout sort of way is a good tv can produce a brilliant picture with old technology (i.e. That on my bedroom wall) but a poor one - and from what I saw today there are plenty- can produce a rubbish picture with state of the art technology i.e. 4K.

Anyone want my old Panasonic 50" plasma.....

thanks for the offer but as a 32inch flat screen seems too big for my sitting room a 50 would definitely be too much

Installed the LG OLED today.....it is absolutely stunning out of the box, will only get better when reconfigured!! Of particular note is how well it works in our lounge that is extremely bright.

Only downside is having installed it (always a hot and sweaty job) I now find that the bracket that works with my tv stand neatly covers the optical socket on the tv that I need to use to benefit from 4K :BangHead:

So it'll be coming off again tomorrow so i can attack the bracket with an angle grinder......:ambulance:

Just checked on the power consumption... average seems to be 50+- % more than a standard telly

And worth every single penny. Absolutely stunning picture when fed with a 4k HDR blue ray.
