I often watch programmes on Fox and now I find they are pulling the service and will be streaming on Disney+ that's ok for those who have a smart tv and can stream programs but some of us have a dumb tv and also lousy WIFI

What's it got to do with a wife? o_O
unfortunately it seems you need good WIFI speed to watch tv nowadays, I'm wondering what use my Sky subscription will be if channels are closing down

Most streaming services that I've seen recommend a minimum of 2Mbps, which isnt a lot. You can do a free online speed check, just google broadband speed test.

didn't realise Fox was going off air. Not happy about that as I've just renewed my Sky subscription on the basis of the shows we watch on Fox. Not paying for yet another subscription, income is finite. It's about time big TV realised this.. Think I'll go back to freeeview when my existing contract ends.

I do speed tests and sometimes of the day it asks me to try again later
That doesn't sound good. Who is your broadband with and what's the broadband speed you're meant to receive.? As opposed to what you're actually getting.

If you've got a laptop and a network cable, connect it to your router and run the speed test again. If the speeds are noticeably higher then it'll point the finger at a WiFi issue.

If the speeds are roughly the same then it's the broadband connection that's at fault.

What is a ‘good‘ broadband speed? That test site says mine is 28mb for download, I’m about forty feet and three walls from the router.

28 mb is plenty if that's consistent. If you had a house full of kids streaming 4k movies and playing online games while you worked online and used Zoom/Skype/etc then you might want to upgrade, but if that's typical over WiFi and there's only you and Mrs Beaks then I wouldn't worry.
If you're paying for faster broadband than that then don't expect much sympathy from your provider. They'll ask you to test it via cable connected to your router and if it is closer to what you're paying for then they'll point to your WiFi setup and try to sell you "upgraded" WiFi equipment.

I've got IPTV on a Firestick. Pay £65 a year and get everything.... Probably not morally correct but for less than what Sky charge for a basic monthly package I really can't see a problem with it.

I think it's down to where I live, other people here have the same problem, we are trying to get fiber installed, mobile signal isn't good either

A good speed? I had over 400mb on wifi in my flat in Singapore. It was higher again on a hardwire.
