Travel Insurance when biking in Europe

I'm going to have a look tonight and read through policies t & c's but wondered what you people do with travel insurance when biking in europe, I've never bothered before but thought I might this time.

I have an EHIC card but that doesn't cover you for having a helicopter peeling you off the side of the alps.

Has anyone looked into it and found out what they generally cover with regards to motorcycling?

I have aways used it. When I had my accident at the Nürburgring, my travel insurance paid for some additional costs whilst in German hospital (including a daily cash allowance:-0)), my repatriation to UK - not just getting a ticket to fly back, but arranging for a British specialist nurse escort, the cost of modification to the plane (they had to take seats out, to make room for the stretcher), cost of ambulance from Adenau hospital to Düsseldorf airport, and one from Gatwick to the hospital in Warwick.
These costs would NOT have been paid for by the bike insurance or the NHS, and were VERY expensive.

Lol! the leg finally healed about 6 months ago - yes really! I had big problems and spent months in hospital in Cologne, including about 16 operations and skin grafts over the last couple of years :violin:
The visitors in Warwick were certainly memorable, even when on morphine , especially when thes sneaked in when I was getting the 1st sleep for fekkin ages lol! (for those of you that know them, just imagine waking up and seeing Robbo, Jaws, Silverfox and Rolfy Dave leaning over you!) Jeez I really shat myself8rfl@

Have a permanent limp, but hey-ho could have been MUCH worse (last year I was in still in real danger of losing my foot).

Funny you mentioned photos, I dont have any of you lot, but I found this one today, taken by Dayglow.

you must be a very lucky man as what you are buying is not worth the paper it is written on as no stranded holiday insurance that ASDA or the alike insurance will cover you for riding a motorbike in Europe

i have just done mine with carole nash ?79 for the year and it covers you for riding a motor bike and holiday cover

as all insurances class biking holidays as a sports hoilday or a extreme sport
and you need to make sure it on the T&C

Okay, as I am one of the relatively few (thankfully) who have "tested" this type of cover, I will say that I asked specifically for insurance that covered me for motorcycling (and even told them about riding the 'ring), and the policy they gave me was one that they sell a lot to skiers, horse riders and divers, so I imagine it was a policy for "more dangerous activities" (but I cant actually remember the full details).
I think it is best to check, not just assume. Believe me, I am terrified to think what would have been the consequences if I'd not been covered, I certainly could not have paid anywhere near the amount that was necessary to get me back home.

Cheers gents.

Appear to be sorted, will double check at lunch but went on money supermarket and looked through the T & C's of a few.

A fair few only cover you for riding up to 125cc but found one that covers biking only thing it doesn't include personal liability (which I assume bike insurance will cover) and they don't give you a ?10K sweetener for dying, loosing a limb or going blind.

Bodders, tell us more about the british escort nurse, your policy sounds much more comprehensive than mine. I would love an "escort" nurse to take my mind off of things!

pillion insurance abroad?

Well, Ive been trying to get cover for myself as pillion, and can't seem to find anything? Going to germany in 10 days with Trig, trying to get him to check if I'm covered on his insurance in the event of the unmensionables.
So will give carole nash a ring?
Tomorrow.
Any other suggestions?
