Coppers are exempt from wearing their seat belts (as are Taxi drivers when with a passenger and so are driving test examiners when with a student), and a police radio is NOT a mobile phone in case that what you wuz thinkin stealth rider. I mean, come on, the man is in pursuit of an idiot in a car who really should be stopped. It wouldn't be unreasonable for him to use his radio would it to give directions to other coppers cos he was on his own and the last thing he wanted i'm sure was a kicking from the dude he was pursuing once he got hold of him in the street! I'll admit it, yes I am from the blue cloth, and I can catagorically say that when you are on your own and you are pursuing tits like that, it can all go pear shaped when you get hold of him so its nice to know that you have at least transmitted your last location to other coppers so they can locate you and assist accordingly.

I know the hatred that it is out there for us (and sometimes its warranted) but both of those threads needed to be put right. If he was on his mobile phone then he deserves a bolloc*ing and a ticket but he wasn't. He was in a high speed pursuit of a disqual driver and he was alone. Trust me, as cool as he looked, I can guarantee that he was just a bit bloody scared too.

Oh and by the way, you can use your mobile whilst driving so long as you are making an emergency call (and I mean to the 999 service not to the pizza shop thats about to close) and as long as you have a medical cert from the quack then you are excempt from wearing your seatbelt too.

I'm puzzled as to why police officers in vehicles have to use hand held radios.

Company I work for specifically forbids use of these on both legal grounds (quotes risk of prosection for not being in control of the vehicle or something [driving with due care] - apparently guidence given by the police!) and also 'cause the HSE have advised that it's an "activity with high risk of serious injury" and as there's a realitively inexpensive solution the company would be highly likely to face prosecution should an employee be injured.

Instructions are to use only vehicle fitted radios (hands free operation) or none at all - mobile phone instructions are to use only if urgent, if hands free kitted and to advise caller you are in a vehicle and will return the call later. Recommendation is to switch all calls to voice-mail rather than use even hands free.

I'm amazed that with all the other techonology fitted to police vehicles they don't have safe radios??

and as for "MY" observations, at NO time did I say it was illegal for the copper to NOT wear his belt!! :f what i DID say was "so you didn't spot he wasn't wearing his seatbelt then" you would never make a GOOD copper,!! MY interpretation being, an OBSERVANT copper WOULD:D have noticed this as a matter of course,!! Huw "apparently" by omission had not, it was this I was pointing out NOT the legality of the situation!! :m
and as a programme in general I still think it sucked, so there!! :p

Jono, many a true word spoken/written in jest, and how many PC pricks would "twist" your words?? if they thought it would "prove a point" :dunno:

that's "Politically Correct" NOT the piggy ones!!

As for the guy on the bike a if its so dangerous for him to drive on the well maintained bike at that speed cause he would be unable to stop, why did our smug rotund friend fell the urge to go even faster in two tons of Volvo to catch him up when there was a marked vehicle ahead?:shooter:

The argument these guys use on speeders is lame and always will be lame.
You boys in blue wonder why you get no respect when you parade arsh07es like that on the TV.
The obvious pleasure taken by these people at an easy conviction gained from someone straying over speed limits set for technology of the average vehicle 40 years ago just shows how sad and worthless there lives must be.
If they showed so much glee in seeking real criminals who are hard to detect and catch, people would be much more simpathetic to your cause.

We have 2 radio systems in the vehicles.... One system is primarily for traffic use and the other is a handheld 'Airwaves' system which us beat bobbies use whilst getting in and out........in and out......in and out.

It would be great if we had to keep finding a layby to pull into everytime we were trying to do a moving PNC check on a shit bags vehicle..

"Sorry sir but we lost your stolen car as we had to pull into a layby to radio through the reg number" :wank: :wank:

Face it, we DO have different rules, rules given to us by the HOME OFFICE!
Its not the cops who decide upon this.

HOME OFFICE rules

Takes me back to the 1st Gulf War, our company were given the task of moving arms/ammo etc for the US Air force, stuff was moved from all over the UK to places for 'onwards' travel to the Gulf. Us truckers entrusted with the job were given a piece of paper from the goverment excempting us from tacho rules, was a license to print money, good days!

Shouldn't we be asking why the copper was on his own, surely there is a strong likelyhood given his line of work that he is going to make an arrest at some point, more penny pinching by the Government? I know that the pursuit drivers are highly trained but it would be safer if he had a colleague in the car with him to concentrate on the radio, and then to assist with the arrest, fortunately this criminal was taken quite easily, but quite often this is not the case.

Spot on mate. We should be asking that. However, the cop trade is probably the biggest political pawn in the politicians whinging/praising career, so there are those who cut us back and there are those who build us up. It depends how close to an election we are as to how many cops you see. Whilst I am safely ensconsed in the Met (think about it, it is the force that is geographically closest to No. 10... the little darlings have to feel safe don't they), my Counties colleagues are really in the shit and struggling with figures. So to that copper in the programme who was alone and was chasing the fat driver, well done mate. Stay safe and get home to your family.

Why can you not have a Hands Free system fitted (Like the rest of the world does for 'phones)??? :dunno: :dunno:

You just put the radio in a holder (Like the rest of the world does for 'phones), and hey presto you wouldn't have to "Pull into a layby to radio through the reg number".

BTW, I firmly believe there are
wanka%20smilie.gif
and bad apples in any walk of life, it's just that people focus on them with regard to the Police, which is unfortunate 'cos they have a hard enough job to do... .
