I've got a 1997 Blackbird which I have had from new. It's done 28000 miles and had regular oil changes.

On start up there is a noticeable top end knock. This disappears once warmed up. The bike runs great, doesn't burn oil,

has anyone any suggestions ?

Cheers

I hope it's normal because I have something similar on my bike briefly while it's idling low on a cold engine.

I have the FI model, and apparently there's a brief range in which the fast idle shuts down, but the engine seems to idle poorly until the engine warms up entirely. It's only during that time that I hear the "knocking" sound (I don't really think it's knocking, though).

To me it just sounds like any other engine that's idling a little lower than normal (like my old Katana if I turned the choke off too soon).

Cheers.
