That’s why I use a slotted spoon.
yep so does my missus & I have done it myself a few times but you still get a bit of water & thats enough for me to turm my nose up
Not a clue why but that's the way it is, even with the poacher I wipe the bottom of the little dish things before going anywhere near the plate, and the same with boiled spuds drain em well or i dont want them

I know i'm odd

All meat loses at least 20% of it’s weight when cooked regardless of whichever butcher you buy it from
Ok, well from our butcher it loses bugger all compared to supermarket shite.

I don't believe they are oak smoked, if you read labels on many rasher/bacon packs you will find it's flavouring.

I was very disappointed to find applewood smoked cheese was just flavour added.

Bacon best without nitrites.
When this is all over I suggest you go over there and do the factory tour. Then try some

Are poached eggs truly poached unless they have been stolen and cooked in water in a hoof print in a field?

There's a clue on the pack, it says added water. Personally I use dry cured streaky bacon. It still shrinks a large amount but that's just the fat rendering down into the pan. Great for frying eggs in after.

Oil? Don't be daft you can't beat lard especially in a deep fat fryer. Unless you've got drippin to do your chips in.
Oh yes.... canna beat chips done in old fat.. Chips done in new fat ( or oil even worse ! ) are plain disgusting !

I might have had a severe talking to about poaching once, quickly followed by a severe kicking & a small fine & not an egg in sight :(

Your poached eggs are horrible.

There, your first complaint.
I also tried the water "fry" method this morning, twice in fact, the first and also the last time, feckin orrible, back to lard/oil etc.

It's on the way.

The castle is nice as well.
Bit if a detour from here. If I'm honest, I'll have to find a butcher more local before too much longer. What's the name of this place in Abergavenny, I might give them a go?
