The biggest problem with usa gun laws and their reform is that the NRA is one of the biggest and most powerful political lobbying groups around, they spend millions of dollars a year lobbying to insure any potential candidate will tow the line re gun laws and "donate" millions more to political parties with the "right" gun law leaningsIt never seems to occur to anyone that maybe the Constitution got the ‘right to bear arms’ bit wrong?
While it is way too little way too late in my opinion at least this is a step in the right direction. Some interesting statistics here as well…

They have also been known to finance dirty tricks campaign's against those who do not share their views, very few recent presidents have been in favour of gun law reform and guess who at least partially paid for the winning candidates election campaigns
Sorry to be a pedant but I think you mean toe the line. If it is a line in the sand for example it would be very difficult to tow no matter how powerful the towing vehicle.
