Sat at home this afternoon when I get a phone call from a chap who was knocked of his bike a couple of weeks ago and sustained some quite nasty fractures and other injuries. He wanted help in making a claim against the numpty that wiped him out.

No problem, other than the fact that I no longer work in legal now that I am semi retired and have been out of that side of things for ther best part of 18 months.

Anyway, long story short, when I asked where he got my details from, apparently he has my business card from when I was a guest speaker at his advanced group 6+ years ago.

This is the 4th or 5th time this has happened in recent weeks and it made me realise just how long people do hang onto business cards for.

Suffice to say I did take some information and I have passed them to a freind and former colleague will be able to help him.

Clearly you made an impression on him when you spoke for him to keep your card (y) Let’s hope your colleague can assist him.

Makes a change from someone phoning you to ask if you had a recent accident I suppose :D

Glad you could pass it on to someone still in the job (y)

I'm thinking of having business cards made up saying 'I am NOT a builder/odd job man'.

It feels like every time I do some work outside the front of my or my mother in law's place people, ask me to quote for jobs,

Perhaps if you didn't have your ass hanging out of your trousers while standing around, drinking tea, people wouldn't make that mistake.

What makes you think I wear trousers while doing diy?

I thought that was how tradespeople guaranteed comtinuing work - repairing other trades bodges?

I spent some time in my building career repairing bodge jobs by other so called builders, probably 5% of my work but much more time was spent rectifying DIY jobs I would guess 40% right up until the time I said sod this for a lark & went off doing my own renovations

Proper trades get a hammering all the time from those that don't know any better but in reality its only a very small proportion of bodgers that cause problems by taking on jobs they don't know how to complete
