The week is finishing on a high

Following on from my post earlier in the week about how chuffed I was at obtaining the MiDAS qualification, well the week has finished on a high (well for me anyway)

I had by diabetes review today.

When I was diagnosed in October my HbA1c level was 89, well above the recommended level hence the reason for the diagnosis.

I did not need to change my eating or diet habits too much because much had already been done due to my heart problem

So imagine my delight when my nurse told me that my HbA1c had dropped in around 6 months to 49.

Apparently for a diabetic, anything between 48 and 58 is deemed a good range, if I can drop below 48 then I would be considered a diabetic in remission and if I can drop below 42 then I should be able to come off the medication although I would still have to continue with the blood, eye and foot checks every year for life.

Not there yet, but I have come a long way in a short time it seems, now it is up to me to keep things going in the right direction, but I am encouraged.

So, I came out of the Dr's surgery with a bit of a spring in my step.

Makes a change to get good news once in a while.

I might enjoy a portion of Fish and Chips for my tea tonight in celebration ;):)

That’s pretty good news. When I was first diagnosed my HbA1c level was 125, high enough that everyone I saw was amazed because I didn’t have any symptoms. Now, 4 years later it’s 58 and hasn’t been below 56. Now I’m developing a few symptoms, partial peripheral neuropathy being one of them. This time of the years hurts most as my feet really suffer from the cold.

I can relate to that part, however my feet problem is mainly due to my disability as the result of my crash on the job bike which left me registered disabled, and poor circulation due to my knackered strawberry tart.

I did thank you (y) It has been a long time since I enjoyed a traditional takeaway. But I probably enjoyed it all the more for that reason.

Still a way to go, but at least its going in the right direction.
