The modern Prison service

You may have heard of the thousands of new Officers that the Prison service has taken on.
A colleague & good friend’s wife has just come out of Hospital after major surgery, she is now home but immobile & still has canulars in her arms, she is on a fair bit of medication, yesterday I asked Ian what he was doing in work, “can’t get leave” he replied, I told him to speak to the duty Governor & get special leave, turns out that Governor wouldn’t grant compassionate leave.
This morning I spoke to the duty Governor who I have known for over thirty years & told him about Ian’s situation, I have just received a message from Ian, he has been knocked back for leave all week, I’ve told Ian that if it were me I would not be in & face the consequences on my return but perhaps Ian is more job proud than me.
Bunch of uncaring arseholes that just regard valuable Officers as numbers on landings.

My wife works for the NHS and with some of the ways that they treat staff I'm amazed that she's still there...but when I broke my neck/back a couple of years back and had spinal fusion they allowed her 3 months or so paid leave to look after me until l was reasonably mobile again.

I'm not sure how many private companies would, or could, do that for an employee.

I would imagine that your friend would be classed as the sole carer and has the right to support his wife.

Govener cannot govern outside his shitty
little prison...

I would tell him to feck off...no job is worth getting in the way of family.
Union 1st, leave a recorded paper trail
for possible future disputes.

Can you imagine if his wife deteriorated
whilst he was at work, he would be beside himself.

Feckin managers are all egotistical and corrupt tw@ts...They would sell their soul
to keep their status and income.
Most of them cannot manage..period.

Reminds me when one of my colleagues in a unit of around 20 people passed away.......the boss decided that anyone attending the funeral would have to use annual leave.

And how did the people react to your edict?

One of Peter's Principles is essentially 'work expands to fill the time available'.

My good lady had developed, this further when she is cooking to 'kitchen utensils and ingredients expand to cover every inch of available work surface'

I stand corrected, this is actually Parkinson's Law.

An update could be 'Brexit expands to fill the time available, especially if you keep asking for extensions'

Go sick. Label it as stress caused by unnecessary suffering. Go home. Pop the telly on, look after the loved one.

Only here once (apparently).
