This is a copy and paste from elsewhere but I wholeheartedly agree

http://www.sixthtone.com/news/1003200/chinas-artificial-sun-marks-breakthrough-for-nuclear-fusion

Scientists in eastern China on Monday announced the creation of a temporary “artificial sun” over six times hotter than the core of the real sun, marking an important step toward building the world’s first nuclear fusion power plant.

Once this power is harnessed large scale renewable energy will be mostly redundant, it would be far cheaper and better for the environment if mitigating technologies had been put in place for existing base load power technologies until fusion is ready.

They better get a wiggle on. Did you read this, taken from the same website..?

Yet again, clean energy has a payback yet to be considered.

Unlimited clean energy....Fusion has got to be the answer (y)
Did a bit of digging.. They have only got one of the three parameters needed to be noteworthy..density, temperature and confinement time.

Research into any energy source must be encouraged despite all the doom mongers (ffs some can't even visualise life without screw tops on their milk cartons ).

However, the underlying issue is always going to cause issues....

E = MC squared

It is base on and earlier premis .... the theory of relativity ( theory being the operative word)
And yes, there are physicist who have proven it.. But then, it is possible given certain parameters to prove 1 + 1 = 3

Would a physicist of the 1800's even THINK of something like the hadron collider, its use in conjunction with boson particles, string theory leading on to M-theory etc etc.. Once explained they would almost certainly understand it... but at the time they lived it was pretty much beyond imagination

I think perhaps we do suffer from that lack of imagination

I couldn't agree more. Even when I was at work it was a constant battle to get the majority to see 'there is a better way', 'think of the impossible then make it possible' .

used the drive me nuts. On the flip side that is largely why I ended up,where I did and they, er, didn't.

Interestingly the younger generation seem to be more receptive - every year I speak to groups of 18 year olds and they aren't overly phased when I speak about them working in industries that haven't even been thought of yet. They understand that the internet isn't the ultimate technology and they will look back on it in old age and laugh about it.

NASA has a target of landing man on Mars by 2030. Most humans don't believe that it will ever happen, let alone by 2030.

JFK had a dream. Look what happened then. Even that can arguably be traced back to German youngsters making home made gliders and then home made rockets after looking at the stars.....

The simple fact is that we are now in a race to either save this planet, or get off it before we make ourselves (and most other creatures) extinct.
I don't see either happening until the human race grows up, unites and pools it's collective knowledge and resources. While that remains in question then we're basically f*cked as a species.
