Is it possible you had heated grips on.
Did it have them.

Apparently the low setting is achieved through a resister which may overheat and cause damage.

I read somewhere that the
No heated grips but I have been racking my brain, the engine was running fine so I think it is possible that the fuel return pipe might have let go. It would have just pumped fuel on to the top of the engine. Had all new pipes but maybe the clip was not tight enough.

just have to see how it’s going to play out with the insurance!
