A m8 and me have just spent the day on a 1200s and 1200gs (demos)as they had no other peeps booked in we were able to have them for the whole day.
I took the gs first I won't bore you with the details on this as yr prolly more interested in the s
but will just say that I won't be part exing my 1150gs for one

the 1200s was fitted with a remus can it sounded awesome as it came flying past

when we swopped bikes halfway through the day I was so disappointed
I was exspecting a machine that was going to knock spots off the bird but it don't
the engine's buzzy, fuel injection's snatchy in town something they were supposed to have cured
riding position as first feels comfy and more upright than the bird but after a while my arms were aching which I don't get with the bird
seat was comfy though
controls light
very stable in mid corner
steering in felt heavy and reluctant to turnin but the front hoop was past it's prime
power wise for the road I prefer the bird which feels creemy smooth where the bm feels harsh and snatchy more like a suzukawacrappyyamhehe although looking at the speedo I thought I was doing 20mph less than I actually was
looks well the bird wins hands down
finish bird wins again
price--=----- ?11600 for the bm on the road with abs and heated grips another grand if you want the on board adjustable suspension
?10200 for the base model
It was raining and the weather protection was not as good as the bird

There's prolly more to say for and against it but I can't be bothered at the end of the day it's a beemer and will prolly apeal to beemer owners but buy one instead of my 8year ole bird with 45k on hmmmmmmm

no way dude

I'll buy a newer bird instead :lick: :lick: :lick:

Well, in the words of the immortal Tommy Cooper...... "you can't say fairer than that then".

Interesting comments mate. I've ridden both recently (hire bikes) and now seriously consider the 1200GS as the best "all round bike" I've ever ridden (IMHP "All rounder" = off road, on road, bumpy B's, major A's, single track lanes, m-ways, etc, etc, etc) . I think it handles better, is lighter than the 1150 and has a bit more poke, all of which make it a bit more useable than the 1150 and more fun to ride. However, as the 1150GS is your second bike, I agree that it's probably not worth the trade in, but if it were my only bike, I'd seriously consider it. Was there anything that didn't impress you about the 1200GS Blue? :dunno:
I've been invited by BMW @ Caterham to test the new K1200S naked thing, so I think I'll pop down & give it some death :} .
It's interesting to see the sales figures for Big Trailies year-to-date compared to Sports bikes - is the average British Motorcyclist begiining to get the message I wonder :dunno: or have we all suddenly become vicitims of "The Long Way Round" :}

Oh yeah I forgot to mention the most off putting thing I found about the bike
as your shifting down the box expecting instant engine braking to slow you down there's a 2 second lag before it happens
riding at a sedate pace it's not really noticeable but up the pace a little and you feel out of control as nothing happens for 2secs
the first couple of times it did it I was approaching a corner a bit quick banged down two gears and nothing bike just kept going then just as I had to turn in in it came as if I'd coasted to the turn in point with the clutch in then let it out
very disconcerting
was it just this bike :dunno: but I would have thought being a demo they would have wanted it spot on to impress potential new costumer's
The tyres were very very good (apart from the worn front)mets m1's loads of grip and feed back they didn't put a foot wrong all day

For my bobs worth.
The BMW K1200R looks a better bike than both of them and with a D/B screen, motorway riding is good as well so I hear.

DS I've had my 1150gs for nearly 2yrs 8k on it when I bought it from a m8 21000 on it now just pleasure miles no commute as I work from home
I've always thought it would be great if it were a bit lighter with more power
enter the new 1200
however a lot of-peeps who went the route of trading in they're old 1150's for the 1200 have changed back crazy you might think I know I did
but having spent yesterday on one I can see why
On this demo one with 3k on it I found the engine very buzzy with a lot of high frequency vibes through the bars footrests and seat
The bike's quicker feels lighter and more flickable lower pegs  I ground mine out often as it is and have had the crash bars around the cylinder heads down on both sides
The tyres on it were dunlops and felt shit I had a number of slides on them they're certainly not a patch on the Michelin's I use on mine
the screen gave a lot of turbulence around the head area but I could prolly have cured this with adjustment
controls felt light and easy to use
I prefer the view from the cockpit on my 1150
gearbox is slicker and more precise on the 1200
One thing I've just thought of was how I didn't notice the torque reaction of the engine and shaft drive so looks like they've done a good job on that
The bike looks and feels very cheap and plasticky and not the solid well screwed together feel of my 1150
as a part ex they offered me 6k for mine a basic one on the road is 9.6k by the time I spec it with abs heated grips crash bars panniers a y piece to replace the cat and release a few more ponies plus chip and a can I'm looking at the best part of 12k

My m8 who was with me and swapped between the s and gs agrees with all the above
he rides a 1150adventurer also has a speed triple and a blade recent other bikes have been a pan,bird,k1200s is the previous owner of my 1150 says the worst thing he's ever done was to sell me the 1150 so much so he had to get another one
He teaches IAM instructors to er instruct he went to the dealer with the intention to part ex his gsa in for a new 1200gs
after riding the 12 though he change his mind and is thinking of trading it for a new 1150 gsa instead

They had a K1200r as a demo looks mean as fook but at ?9100 for the basic machine is a bit on the expensive side they wouldn't let it out till after the official launch this weekend just in case it got binned as they only had the one

next week they said I could take it out for the day depending on how busy it was
the dealer is Rydales in cardiff as long as it's a quiet weekday you can pick it up in the morning and take it back before they close at 6
I don't know if they allow this only to they're existing customers it's the second time they've allowed me loose on an all day demo.
