Symvastatin

Bev had a blood test a couple of weeks back & the results came back that she had hep b, we both doubted the accuracy of the results so she went for more blood tests, got the results today, her liver is failing due to symvastatin, I asked if they’d taken her off it & she said no due to the risks, stuck between the Devil & the deep blue sea springs to mind, she has to go for an ultrasound & then six monthly blood tests.
Here’s the shocker for anybody on Symvastatin, 1 in 4 will suffer from liver failure but not know it until it’s too late, Bev’s was found due to needing regular blood tests for her hypothyroidism.
If you are on Symvastatin get your blood checked regularly.

Sad to hear she has liver issues, especially when the cause is not something she can't stop taking.

I have a bad reaction to statins so despite high cholesterol the doc decided that taking statins would be more detrimental to my health.

They say statins are safe but I know of three other people who have bad side effects when taking them.

That not good news Derek.
There are many many side effects from statins, many are played down or not even discussed with you.
I had severe muscle pains from taking them, and dispite heart bypass and heart failure there is absolutely no way that I will take them.
Diet/exercise/life style all can affect (and reduce if done properly) your cholesterol levels. Mine are generally about the 4 level.

Sometimes you have to weigh up the options, when I had radiotherapy I was told that it could cause heart disease in 15 to 20 years. Cancer or heart disease not a good choice.
