Wish I didn’t link that one, the seats are wrong, the seatbelts are wrong, the engine bay is wrong, wrong air filter. Bah!

Yes, correct it had a ZF, I had to resort to Google as my memory from 40+ Years ago is rather shite. Perhaps the Getrag was a preferred go-to for rallying if money was no object.

found a couple, here’s one at £32k. From memory I thought they had a Getrag gearbox from new and not ZF

My memory is that it was an absolute hoot and as basic as a basic thing. More or less a bare shell with a daft motor in it.

I had an Avenger Tiger from a previous generation that was from the same mound - it seemed like and was regarded as a rocket ship at the time....93bhp from memory!! I have seen those advertised for over £20k...whether they sell or not atbthat price is another matter.

As I said earlier I worked for a Chrysler dealership mid 70s/early 80s. I went on a course at the Ryton plant near Coventry one time, we had lunch in the executive dining room , oo-er proper silver service waiters and waitresses, they knew how to keep the knobs happy. We had a visit around the assembly line watching them throwing the Avengers together “whatever you do, do not under any circumstance talk to anyone on the line” we were told. Apparently they needed very little reason to down tools and stop working. In hindsight all the cars they produced, Avengers, Imps, Hunters etc. were absolute crap. Then they integrated with Simca, producing the Horizons and Alpines and they were just as bad if not worse. Ooh there was some real rubbish around. Like the time they “found” 200/300 Simca 1501 estate cars on an estate 2 years after they went out of production - they got sold as new models.
What I did like, although not on sale officially over here, were the Matra Simca Bagheera and later Matra Murena models, 3 seater sports cars based on the Simca 1100 and then the Chrysler 2litre. Both were probably crap as well in reality. Those are days best left unremembered......

There was not a lot wrong with the tiger in design terms & they did go bloody well what let them down was typical uk car makers poor attention to detail & poor bodywork (even new from the factory)

As an example of how good the tiger was we put a 2l fiat twin cam in mine & it handled the boost in power really well, sticking a new set of spax coil overs on tamed it completely …………… until the body began to fall off through rust as expected

Still wasn't as fun as my HA viva with a firenza motor in though

And when did this become a car thread :p

Was the Firenza motor the slanted over one that Lotus played around with to make the engine for the Sunbeam?

Ah, the Firenza....

Can't remember what designation this was but they were pretty cool in their day.
