Stolen car UK

While away we saw a reasonably new Focus parked in a car park in a private car park at a garden centre that had been there for nine months….taxed and not reported lost or stolen, car park owners have decided to leave it there and have cut the grass very neatly all round it…other than a ring about three feet wide that is about four feet tall. Becoming a bit of a tourist attraction now.

I watched the programme ref car thefts and was surprised when one of the people's who car had been stolen and who had located it using it's tracking device was told by the police to go and fetch it themselves, it could have gone badly wrong :pontiac::cop1:

I have zero doubt that this happens as plod simply cannot be everywhere at once….painful though it is there will be times when car theft is not too of the priority list. Car thieves are obnoxious scrotes but they aren’t totally stupid….the most common time for car theft is Friday and Saturday nights when a huge (and I mean HUGE) chunk of plod is doing their best in town centres to stop the mayhem caused by drugged and/or drinked up idiots. a common modus operandi for car thieves who take cars that are likely to have a tracking device fitted is to park them up for a few days and see if anyone turns up thus proving or not if a tracking device is fitted. Arguably the risk to someone recovering their vehicle in that period is minimal. I know I would!

If I walked into an art gallery and stole a £50000 piece of art work they would be looking for me, but according to the programme they wouldn't be looking for a £50000 car, all down to the media coverage

The problem is their isn't enough police

Their is a dedicated Police team dealing with art fraud, their isn’t a specific force dealing with car thefts

The usual trick is for them to steal it and then park it up somewhere innocuous for a while before moving out on. That way those with trackers get found at the first spot that will have blow all to do with the main operation.

Wrong.

Fact.

Either way plod have to use a massive chunk of their resources every week on policing town centres as so many people cannot go out without causing mayhem. The figure for how much of Sussex police resource have to put into Brighton on the weekends is eye watering.

You are wrong, there is a branch of Met Police dedicated to arts & antiques.

No, you are wrong; not only are there local dedicated car crime teams there is a national team that is so secret that it must be mentioned on here.
