Back in the day I spent a fair bit on good stereo equipment..
Today, as long as I can hear what I am listening to, and it can melt my ears if I want it to, thats good enough..

And as much as I would like to say I can see the benefit of HD tv, I am damned if I can see hardly any difference.... OK, I like big tellys ( living room and conservatory has 54" jobbies ), but comparing like for like to my eyes, HD and standard looks the same on the programs I watch

What say the members of the panel ?

I have two pretty old massive plasma non-hd TVs that I can't see the point in replacing.

But.......recently put a new HD tv in for my mum to replace her old non HD set and I have to say the difference was very noticeable. Whether it was HD or the fact it was replacing an old tv with new is anyone's guess.

Most tellys have a good picture these days, mine is 4k ultra smart hd & basically not much difference to standard tellys, must admit though the oled tellys are something else.

I had a 60" UHD TV in my condo in Singapore. It should be here by now but it's currently in Mozambique (that's another story!) and the difference between that and my 10 year old HD TV here is astonishing.

We also have a Bose full surround home cinema here and that's pretty incredible too. I couldn't justify the cost of a similar set up in Singapore because my lounge was a lot smaller so just had a Bose Soundbar instead. Again, the sound was pretty amazing. I had WIFI Soundtouch speakers there too and I loved the sound on them. My soundbar and speakers are all in Mozambique, too.

I think it's a little subjective but the sound that Bose kicks out suits our ears and it would take something special for me to take my cash elsewhere. That said, I've heard Bose in cars and it's always sounded, um, shite. I can't wrap my head around that but it is what it is. I have Harmon Kardon in my Panzer and it's pretty impressive.

I looked long and hard before replacing my old Panasonic plasma. I was only looking to replace it because I wanted something bigger. The main issue I had was that the lcd/led stuff just couldn't do black properly. It was all grey as far as I was concerned. Went to Richer sounds and they showed me an LG 4k oled set which immediately came home with me. The picture quality on HD is outstanding. The difference between HD and 4k is noticeable but not enough to make me spend the money for that alone. Sky show some football in 4k but even that can't make Man Utd look good.

The soundbars are pretty decent but you can't beat a good amp with good surround speakers and a subwoofer!!

Watching tv without it just isn't the same.

The member from Worcestershire says he can see a slight difference between SD and HD on his Samsung LED telly, but it's not a massive difference IMHO. Carol Kirkwoods' mole, on her right cheek, is a little more pronounced in HD, I noticed this momentarily whilst my gaze dropped south.
